Are the Panasonic cameras dependable enough to skip purchase of an extended warrantee?

I really believe they are dependable but I would not want to influence your decision and have it go bad.

I really do not believe in extended warranties but after a 3 thousand dollar repair bill on my vehicle this summer I may be reconsidering.

Thanks for your response, Gene. I am hoping to hear from a few of the thousands of folks who have Panasonic's cameras who have had to use their extended warrantee. I have purchased 3 cameras (for various family members), all with extended warrantees, and never needed to file a claim, although we had an immediate problem with a Canon S60 that the manufacturer handled (promptly).

I'm guessing that the insurance companies do very well with the policies even though they occassionally have to pay for an expensive repair.

I bought a Personal Property Floater Policy for $24/yr to cover $1200 of my camera equipment that includes my FZ30 and Lens and other stuff that I listed.. Covers dropping, losing and stolen and has no deductible.

I just checked with my insurance agent, and I can add $1200 worth of camera equipment (I just used your number, Stan) for only $12/yr., and all I need to do is provide a list of items (model numbers) with serial numbers and values. Like you said, there's no deductible, and it will cover almost every "loss of use" that is not a manufacturer's defect. AMAZING! Thanks for a great suggestion, regardless of what I do about the extended warrantee.
