Hello! I recently upgraded my laptop from Windows ME to Windows 2000 SP4. Before the upgrade, the camera was working fine. I was able to retrieve any images from the camera via Picasa or ZoomBrowser.

Now with Windows 2000, I can't acquire the images because I get a "Visual C++ Runtime Error". It's quite odd because that error occurs on any program with a "retrieve image from camera/acquire" command or similar. It simply won't let me get any images.

I tried uninstalling all the drivers via Add/Remove (although not totally sure if that was enough to completely of gotten rid of the driver), I plugged it in again and it auto-detected. (It said Canon Camera). Tried it again and still the same "Visual C++ Runtime Error".

I tried installing the TWAIN driver from the Canon website (because WIA didn't work), but still it didn't work. And unfortunately I don't have the drivers CD either.

Is there any way I can solve this problem? Or has anybody got this problem before? I googled my way and this was the only similar article (http://ask.metafilter.com/mefi/16588) in case my descrption couldn't be understood.

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. Thank you!

Can you drag and drop them from the camera? My computer>canon>new folder

What version of zoom browser are you using?

What if you removed the USB from device manager?

Ive never had 2K or XP work correctly after an upgrade from ME or 98 to 2K or XP and ive tried it several times in the past 5 years on many different machines. Its like they use 2 different languages or somthing. I have ME and XP on this machine with dual boot and i cant run some programs that were installed on ME threw XP some will. What i mean is if i have installed it on ME i can click the .exe icon when running XP and it will run threw XP some programs will some wont. This sounds like the problem your having.

Ide bet a fresh install of 2K then reinstall zoom browser it would work fine.

Ill search threw my canon disk and see if there is a setup file for 2K. Some programs have 4 different setup files for each version of windows. For some reason i think the "twain drivers" are the problem. You may want to look into the "twain drivers"

Thanks alot in advance! I'll go check it out although first I'll download the latest ZoomBrowser, then I'll format and reinstall.

Thanks for the reply BowerR64. Much appreciated. :)

No before you format and reinstall try some other things. A format and reinstall is pretty drastic even though its the best way you can save some time if you try other things.

When i say remove the USB just go to device manager and then click the usb string and then click remove. It will sort of uninstall the USB connection then when you reboot it will reinstall the windows drivers. Sometimes the drivers for the board need reinstalled. You know how computers are the can hickup from time to time. Spyware, viruses, who know there are many things that can affect the drivers but im trying to think of some things to try before a fresh install.

Good luck these kind of errors can be tricky. Its getting harder and harder to trouble shoot because the internet is getting so corupt.

Try a USB memory card reader. If your installation of Windows 2000 has a problem with this, chances are there is something wrong with the operating system.

I just recently bought a canon sd550 and when I tried to get pictures off of the camera using the zoombrowser I couldn't do it. A web search brought up this link to a query on Steve's Camera forum:

http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=69951&forum_id=34

It worked for me (Look at the post by Armani).

Don't know if it will help you.

by the way this is my first post, so I don't even know if I can post a link, but if I can't, just go to steves forums dot com and do a "search by username" for "Armani". That search only brings up 5 posts, and the one I'm refering to is the 5th one.

Don't know if this will help, but hope it does.
