I'm looking for noise reduction software, and I know there are two big boys on the block: Neat Image and Noise Ninja. Now I thought my decision would be rather easy, because I have a Mac and Noise Ninja doesn't support the Mac.

That's what I thought anyway. I checked (just in case) and yes... they DO support the Mac.

So here I am. Can anyone give me a good reason to get one over the other? Is one significantly better?

For what it's worth, I have a Digital Rebel XT. I know both have profiles for it.

I've never tried Noise Ninja, but I love the adjustability and customizability of Neatimage. You can use a default profile, of course, I like to make up custom profiles for my camera for different ISOs and light sources.

have both and use both.
I prefer Noise Ninja because it is faster and easier for my workflow.
If I had a camera that produced a lot of noise and my images needed more detailed/customized input, I would opt for Neat Image.

tried both, and i like the results from noise ninja better. maybe i didn't know enough about the custom features on neat image? really enjoy the workflow quick results when using noise ninja as a photoshop plug-in. hey, if an image needs noise reduction, it probably need some post processing or at least some USM - nice not having to open up two different programs, process, save, re-open...

One other one to consider is Noiseware. Very simple to use, quick and cheap. Also, if you input "PMA2006" into the discount code box you can get a 40% discount--not sure if it's still in effect, but for me that brought down the price from $25 to just $15. I still prefer Neatimage for most uses, but I'm playing with Noiseware as well to see what kind of shots it works best with.
