I have a question about the Canon S2 IS digicam. It has the Digic II Processor just like the Rebel XT (the camera I actually want but can't afford) so is the performance similar with both cameras in auto mode?
just like everyone else, my main concern is the time between pressing the shutter and the picture being taken. I know that the manual focus on the XT would allow me to manually focus and shoot away, but I will truthfully probably have it in auto mode trying to get a quick picture of the kids anyway. I plan on having the image review off on the S2 to help, but am I still going to be frustrated waiting for the picture to be taken?!?!?!?
Any input would be greatly appriciated.
Thank You,
Chris

Theoretically the photos from auto mode should be the same for both cameras BUT we need to keep in mind that the larger sensor in a dslr (350D) will ALWAYS produces cleaner photos and because of the 8mp of the 350D you will definitely see more resolution even for the same setting (e.g. both camera set at M2 Superfine) Of course with a dslr, you are dependent on the quality of the lens you attach to the body :)
But to ask if you will be frustrated with the pictures from a S2is? Just remember the limitations of the camera (e.g. low light etc....) and work with its strengths. If you properly expose the shot then you will be amazed at the quality of the photos the S2is is capable of taking.
Here are some S2is shots I recently took. I am not saying they are perfect but I am amazed what this camera is capable of.

Daniel,
Thank You for your reply. Very cool pics.
I think I am prepared for the resolution trade-offs of the S2 vs the 350D, my main concern is with the time it takes to take a picture. Is there a big drop off in that area of performance?
I have the camera on, looking at a subject, and I see the instant I want to capture!! I press the shutter and is the 350D going to take the picture faster than the S2 with both in manual mode?
Thanks!

Of course the 350d will be a bit faster in terms of autofocus and actual shooting. Keep in mind though, how fast the 350d goes depends on the speed of the lens you have attached to it and for you to get a lens anywhere near the focal length of thr S2is will mean a relatively slow lens most of the time. The advantage of the S2is is that you got a camera with such a nice focal range that once you see something you like to shoot, either near or far, you are good to go. The key is as you progress, learn not to shoot in auto mode instead learn to shoot in AV or TV or manual mode for best result. Hope that helps.
Here are some more shots from my S2is

What are some key settings you use for the S2? changes in the menu? One thing that sucks about photoshop is that it doesnt keep the info on the image. Like the shutter speed, ISO and Fstop. I have saved your images but there is no info what you used.

I shoot in Manual mode 100% of the time and I tend to keep the aperture wide open as often as possible that way the only thing that I adjust on a constant basis is the shutter speed. Iso is set at either 50 or 100
If you have time please check out my gallery http://www.flickr.com/photos/danielygo/sets/ you can see the settings by clicking the camera properties. Thanks

I went to your site but i didnt get anymore info. I even tried to save one and i go nothing. It saved as a GIF file wich was weird. Do the settings show in a link? or how do i view them on each image?
I wish it gave more info about the shot, this is how i learn. I wich the info file told the camera mode flash settings stuff like that. Latley i dont even get to see the ISOit ue to tell more about a image latley it hasnt.
