Hi guys
wonder if any one can help me.
i am new to this forum so i apologise if this thread is in the wrong section but it said that te lenses forum was closed. please move this if it needs to go elsewhere.
im very interested in the tamron 70-300mm ld lens for nikon and the sigma 70-300apo macro DG lenses.
does any one have any recomendations. i know they are both consumer budget lenses but all i can afford heh. or is there something else that would be better? i am going on a cat photo shoot soon and want something for that other than my 18-55 kit lens, with a budget of £160 max really.
i was thinking of the sigma asi have heard it doesnt suffer form purple fringeing quite as much as the tamron does.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thank you
I have no direct experience with either lens but the Sigma 70-300 APO is a constant favourite amongst many on this and other forums.

is it still ok for nature photography and landscapes and is it still possible to use in low light situations with a tripod? i understand that they probably wont be very good, but all i can afford

Nature photography does not give a very detailed explanation of what you mean. I guess you want to bring animals and such a bit closer, and the lens is quite ok for that. Also the Sigma's macro will let you make nice photos of floswers and such.
If a subject does not move a lot, a longer shutter time and tripod is of course also very possible, for its type it is a good lens.

sorry for asking so many questions
ive been looking for a while and wanted to get it this week. i know everyone seems to say wait and save for the 70-200F2.8 one but thats way out of budget at about £550 on warehouseexpress i believe no matter how much i save heh.
the main reason i want it is that i am going on a photoshoot in august for big cats and was recommended the nikon 70-300mm G lens on my budget, but the sigma seems to be better.
i also like the fact that it has the macro bit too.
i have looked at nearly all reviews for tamron and sigma 70-300 and am just very confused now
i think i will probably go for the sigma anyway as a budget lens until i can afford something better or soemthing cheap comes up on ebay
thanx for any opinions, please keep them coming :)

There's really not much "middle-ground" when it comes to such length tele-zooms - the Sigma is the best of the budget 70-300 lenses, there's not much above it until you get to the four figure $$$$ lenses.
I personally plumped for the super-cheap Nikon G version, because I know it is purely a stop-gap lens to get me started for a few months... it's great for the price but certainly does have some limitations. If I was looking for something to keep for a while the Sigma would be my choice.

I think the Sigma 70-300 Macro is a good lens for the cost which is under 200.00 USD if you need it at this time. You can always trade it in down the road if you decide on the 70-200 f2.8 when your budget can handle it. The 70-200 f2.8 will be my next lens...;)
