Panasonic have a good explanation of the difference speeds expeced from cameras with SD card that adhere to the given specification. They only show their card speeds on the site url but the spec can be checked up on other brands of cameras. FZ30 complies and uses the Pro SD card speeds.

SD Pro series cards cost more but are worth it in my opinion.
Happy snapping

Do as you wish but I have one of the Panasonic 133X cards and it is not as fast as some 60X cards I have, when used in the FZ30....In all fairness the Panasonic is 512mb and the others are 1 or 2 gb ....but they are not worth the price difference.....as they did in that test ,compare it to 3 yr old technology, they may be correct. But the FZ cameras can not use over 5 mb/s transfer so spending more is not worth it......Not to say that, as I just did ,I got a 2 gb Ridata 120X card at Newegg for 70 bucks....that is worth it.
Everycard I own works as fast in the camera as that Panasonic for less money.
While I think the FZ line of cameras is top notch....their accessories, Lens, cards, batteries and such are vastly over priced.....Just like the NY camera stores do not buy their accessories.

genece,
Could you elaborate a little bit? What do you mean that FZ cannot use over 5mb/s transfer speed? That is about 33x for SD card speed, isn't? why did you buy 120x though?
Unless transfer speed is different from read/write speed for SD card. I am looking at TwinMOS Ultra-X 1GB with 150x for my FZ7 on newegg.com, and not sure whether I should get one or not if I cannot fully use the speed as the card specified.

I made a chart of the write times of the cards I have but for some reason when I try to paste it in this forum it gets all messed up...something I do not understand about format I guess so lets try this.
I also checked the FZ20 and the Tiff time is very similar.

how to read your chart? 4second for TIFF for a card means what? sorry, quite slow here.

Just to add to the above post.....I buy faster cards because, who knows what the next generation of cameras will be able to utilize.
And they transfer to the computer much faster with a USB2 card reader...which if you do not have, you should get before it becomes a necessity.(the camera USB connection quits)
Also notice that the larger Lexar is faster than the small one...That is something else that Panasonic Bob reported years ago....larger cards are faster.
But that seems to stop at 512mb which was the largest card at the time he talked about that.
I should also say these times were measured with a stop watch so the times are not exact but they are close.. as I only did it for my curiosity.
