I am thinking about getting the Canon EOS-10D and noticed that it was introduced over a year ago. Does anyone know if a replacement is coming out any time soon? Thanks.

Yes, it's being replaced within the next month to month and a half.

Is your prediction based on reliable info or just another rumor? I would speculate an upgrade of the 1Ds and the Rebel is more likely. The 1Ds because it is getting a bit long in the tooth and the Rebel as a response to the Nikon D70. I don't have any inside info.

I found this link that talks about possible upgrades (rumors)

I'm 95% sure... but I've been wrong before. In any case, what's the harm in waiting for the next crop of Canons (which Jeff has hinted may even be tomorrow)?

No Canons tomorrow as far as I know.

If you were going to replace the 10D, how would you improve it?

I would improve the autofocus (more accurate).
I would add histograms for each color channel.
Those are the main things.

I'm not greedy, here's what I'd like to see:

Faster autofocus with more selection points. Not necessarily a 45-point system like the 1D but more than 7
Improve metering modes, specifically a true spot meter
Better viewfinder (bigger, brighter, user-replaceable screen, something)
Add back the custom function to change the ISO via the SET button on the back (ala D30/D60, personal preference)
Lose the flash-strobe for AF assist
Less noise at higher ISOs - not that it's bad currently but less is more :)

Does anyone know a timeframe (fall, winter) on the new release? Thanks.

If you were going to replace the 10D, how would you improve it?

1) Add a cable release to the shutter button.

2) Bumb up options for in-camera sharpening for when you don't wish to fool with it later in a photo editor.

3) Add TIFF as a storage option.

4) Small, but include a more comfortable neck strap with camera kit.

Put it in an EOS-3 body... or at least an Elan 7NE... eye control is so cool. I've heard rumors that they're going to use the sensor from the MKII, but without the same buffer/performance to keep the price down.

Here's the current rumor running around the net:

- announce on 20th this month
- model name : EOS 20D
- 8 megapixel
- CMOS sensor , 1.6X crop factor
- 9 focus point
- 5fps (not sure abt the frame buffer)
- new lens : EF-S 17-55mm IS (yes with IS)

I've also seen mention of a "joystick" type control on the back, presumably to aid in the selection of the current focus point.

Only time will tell.

Anyone know if there really is going to be a replacement for the Canon 10D this year? I almost bought the 10D yesterday, but just before I handed over my CC, I decided to wait a week or so.

Same here. My camera dealer said he should have them in stock by next week Thursday.
