I purchased a SanDisk 512 mb SD card 9 months ago. It went bad "unusuable media" in my camera, it also could not be formatted either in the camera or my card reader, also made by SanDisk. This one was replaced by Staples where it had been purchased. That one lasted about a month and was used very little during that time. The second one was replaced by SanDisk, lasted 4 days. Since then I have had 3 others replaced by SanDisk, all have gone bad, one right out of the package. The paper work with the replacement cards indicate they are from a "bulk" supply, so I assume they are not tested before being sent out. I requested the last one be tested before being sent to me, it lasted about half a day, 5 pictures - BAD.

Frustrated and tired of wasting time I purchased a 512mb from PNY. It has worked great, I purchased another, it also worked great, both in the camera and the computer.
To be fair I must say that I also have 64 mb SanDisk sd cards that work fine. The problem is with the 512mb cards. DO NOT BUY THE 512MB SANDISK CARDS.
I hope this posting will save others from dealing with this issue.

I have been using a 512M Sandisk card for 15 months in my SD300 without problem. It's been completely reliable under very heavy use (1000's of photos and video) and read from the camera directly and via a card reader.

I can't say what's happening with your cards, but it's not a general issue with Sandisk cards. I also have a 1 Gig Sandisk card that has worked without problem for 6 months.

I haven't heard of a problem with Sandisk. What camera are you shooting?
