I have a Minolta Dimage 7hi that has been working fine up until yesterday. I went to take some pictures and the back screen was completely black as was the viewer through the eye piece. The menu can be viewed but that is all. I cannot view any pictures on the card. Replacing the batteries makes no difference.
Has any one had this problem? If so what was the solution?

Thanks
Hank

I haven't had that happen, but since you can still see the menu, the problem would seem to be between the sensor and the video processor. Basically it is back to KM for repair, which means you have to wait for Sony to take over from what I understand (KM no longer accepts new items for repair).

Or did you forget to remove the lens cap? ;)

My 7Hi had exactly the same problem. The screen looked like the lens cap was on. Previously taken pictures on the CF card were visible. If one tried to take a picture, the "shutter" clicked after a few seconds delay, and then "clicked" again after about 10 seconds. This happened back in February. I called the KM repair center. They asked me to send it to the facility. I received it back last week. There was no note indicating what the nature of the problem was and there was no bill. But, the camera worked as good as new. KM came through at the end.

So, it looks like you have a problem that can be fixed, but you will need to try out the new repair arrangements.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

I have the exact same problem! Mine just started this weekend. What do you have to do to get it fixed? Where do you call? I haven't been able to find anything about the service repair facility. I tried everything, changed batteries, thought I was going blind or crazy or both. It really does look like the lens cap is on, but I can get to the menu, see the pictures on the card, but it just won't show any image or record the image.

Ditto. My screen does not go black altogether. Brighter objects appear purplish and heavily distorted. I think the camera may have been jarred well by someone. Blowing air into seems to not help in any way. After sitting for several hours, it displayed accurately for about 2 seconds and distorted again. Old images seem fine. I agree it may be something bewtween the lens and the board inside but what? Is it worth taking apart if Minolta does not Cover?

My 7Hi developed the black screen fault, so I contacted Minolta. Here is the reply that I received, looks like good news for those with the faulty screens which aren't black.

My Minolta Dimage A-1 just started having this problem last weekend (distorted picture and color on screen and in viewer while menu works fine). I was panicked as this camera is what I inherited from my father. I called KonicaMinolta support, through Sony, and have already been sent a UPS shipping label for no-cost shipping and it will be repaired for free.

I only found that information as I searched for a camera repair shop in Houston and ran across a link to this forum.

Thanks all!

:)
