What exactly is the latest/best version of Nikon Capture? I've been using PS 7 and some other Nikon freebies but hear so much about Capture, I figure it's time to buy. Any and all thoughts welcome. Thanks...

Now may not be the absolute best time to buy Capture. The current version is 4.4, if you are dead set on getting it today. However, Capture NX is supposed to be released next month (or so), with significant upgrades. This version is not going to be free for Capture owners (as we have come to expect over the last two or three years), though there will be upgrade pricing.

Capture 4.4 is an excellent product, and if you choose to get it, you will be pleased with it's capabilities, but I just hate to see you have to pay twice if you really want the latest and greatest.

The new Capture NX is supposed to work hand in hand with the new Nikon View Pro (which you will also have to pay for, the current Nikon View is a free download). Nikon View Pro will be the workflow product, and Capture will be the editing and conversion product. Both of these are products of Nik Software, which Nikon recently hired to do this sort of work. Hopefully, this will involve significant improvements in the software performance.

Thanks, that's exactly the kind of info I was looking to locate. More than a few times over the years I''ve lost because I failed to do my homework, so this is a big help. Now, any idea on price? Most mentions I can find seem to indicate a May release on this product.
