"Alpha" Maxxum 7D?

Is the "Alpha" Maxxum 7D a "Grey" Market item? Notice that many of the ads on the net say "in stock", but when you discuss placing an order for a Plain old Maxxum 7D, they are suddenly out of stock & either don't expect any more of say it will be several weeks. Now many of the sites are switching to specify an "Alpha" Maxxum 7D. Do any of you have extensive experience with Grey Market equipment. I don't except for gear I have purchased overseas & then have had no problems servicing it in the states - But this will be my first digital SLR.

As far as I know, the KM "Alpha" 7D is the Japanese equivalent of the "Maxxum" (USA) and "Dynax" (Rest of World). I guess there are alot more Alpha's in stock rather than the western versions...only difference being language of manuals.
