Canon A95 or S500?

I know that two cameras are designed for different users. But, I really only need one question answered. I would also like any advice you have. I will mainly be using the camera for point-and-shoot (vacations, holidays, parties, etc.).

Does either of these two camera have better picture quality?

I don't think they difference in size will much of a factor.

My main concern is to get the one with the better picture quality.

I also have a few concerns with the battery for each. The A95 can use AA's if I were in a tight spot. But, I would most likely purchase the rechargables Canon sells. The S500 comes with a rechargable. I would probably purchase an additional one.

What is your advice?
