I have the D50 and after taking a photo I like to review them on the camera.
It seems to me that the pictures on the camera are brighter and have more detail than on my computer, they just plain look better. I do not have the software to shoot in raw format. I remember reading a review on the D50 before I purchased it and the guy had mentioned he actually liked the image on the camera better at times as well. Mostly the pictures show up darker than what the camera shows. I have not sent any pictures to be printed, which may be something to try. Could it also be the computer monitor itself, which would mean I'm trying to adjust for problems that are not even there.
Anyone else have similar experience or advice?

I think you might want to consider a new monitor. I'm very happy with how my pictures appear on my monitor. I really feel the pictures are better viewed with my pc then on the camera. It can also be the software you use to view them. I know I'm not happy with how pictures appear with Nikon Capture 4 as compared to other image editing software or even with IE browser. I'm sure it could be just a white balance setting with the Nikon software but I have never messed with it because I don't use it much. Good Luck!

It's not likely that the problem lies with your monitor. It's more likely the video graphics adaptor that you have installed on your computer and maybe the screen resolution that you have selected in the device settings.

However, you also have to realise that smaller resolution does apparently give greater clarity in colour definition, for example if you buy 2 televisions both the same but one has a 15" screen and one has a 35" screen, the 15" screen would be much the better picture. (I'm not talking about the modern flat screen tv's here)

Just another thought, you may have the camera display set too bright.

Jcon,
I have actually had it set -2(lowest it goes) at times to try and recreate what I actually view on my pc.

Mike,
Could be the monitor, my wife took a copy of some pictures I took to view them on her new pc at work, and she thought they looked better there. I did not get a chance to see them though.

Edboy,
Your over my head with the video graphics adapter, I have tried various screen adjustments to no avail. My system is 5 years old, a lifetime by electronics standards.

If your PC is 5 years old you may want to consider a new one. If your going to do any picture editing you will appreciate more power.

Rich,

I have the same problem here using a monitor that's 5 years old, 19" flatscreen. My photos always look so good on the camera monitor but always look "drained" and washed out when put onto the computer screen. I seem to have to post process everything to get the contrast and color-vividness up to where I like it. I am blaming it on my lens and ready to try something different but maybe it's not my lens after all, getting frustrated about it but hate to go out and spend a ton on a new lens if it isn't the problem...

You don't have a place to rent lenses do you? I do not have a place near by that rents, but that sure would be helpful since you are shooting with one lens. Have you tried another computer? It looks like I might have to spend money but I do not think it is my lenses. It really seems on camera there is a lot more detail in the darker areas than on the computer. I only have the Picture Project that came with the camera, woeful at best.

No, there is no rental shop here for lenses. George R. explained what it may be on another thread and it makes sense. There is always so much to think about, is it the lens, the computer, or even the D50 camera or is it just my eyes,

I used to get awesome shots with the older D70 with no complaints no matter which lens I used, never should have let that one get away...

Please check this photo, can you make out the eyes on the Bison. This should be right up your alley Darrell.

The eye on the right was clearly visible on the camera.

Well, I can tell there is an eyeball there, but myself, I would process that photo so I could see the grain in the lumber on the fence and make the whole photo a little sharper, but that's just me... Very nice photo...Bison around here don't bowl so that one is very special, :D

With the basic Nikon software, and I do mean basic. It can only get this sharp, there are only the 3 settings. I have the camera sharpness up plus 1 already. This was the look he gave me after trying to pick up the 7/10 split.
