Just got a FZ4. Mass Storage Card reader picks up the SD card ok but USB connection causes nothing to happen. Running XP Pro. The software and booklet for the camera indicate that I don't need to install a USB driver with XP. My other USB devices are running fine. I made sure cam was on 'playback', turned on and connected to the USB port. Nothing happens. Do I access the USB connection though included software or is the USB connection start a window on it's own? Any clues appreciated.
Thanks for your attention.

Are you using a card reader or are you using the camera to try and download the Photos..If your using the camera do yourself a big favor and get a card reader.

But it seems your using the camera,,,,you do not need to put the camera on play it only needs to be turned on And the USB mode set to PC in the setup menu.

XP needs no driver.....if you have nothing selected to download the photos XP should ask you what you want to do or the camera and scanner wizzard should open.

Or you can go to windows explorer and find the drive (camera) and open that drive..then open the dcim folder and the photos should be there.

Maybe this will help..I am not sure.
You say XP sees the card....If so right click that drive and choose autoplay.
Disconnect the camera and connect again.

Try those couple things and tell us how you made out.

Thanks Gene for you coments. I have a card reader, the type that set in the computer in a cd rom slot. The card reader reads the sd chip just fine. I just wanted the usb connection to work also. The card reader also has a USB port also but it turns out that it is not working. I tried using a USB port on the back of the computer and it works. It reads the camera just fine. But for some reason my cursor arrow gets frozen when the sellection window opens. Il have to reboot to get out of the frozen cursor. Any ideas? I could just forget the whole usb connection issue I guess.

You could leave XP trouble shoot your USB connections but that is why I say a card reader is a good Idea.....been many problems reported using the camera for transfer......A few have no trouble using the camera ,In fact I tried it, and I have no problem but I still use a reader.
