What is the difference between a mini SD card and a regular SD? Will they both work in the same cameras?

What is the difference between a mini SD card and a regular SD? Will they both work in the same cameras?
miniSD cards are much smaller than SD cards. Alone, they will not fit in your camera, but SanDisk bundles their miniSD cards with an adapter which makes your miniSD card "compatible with all SD based devices." I think that the miniSD cards are aimed more at cell phones.
