That looks really nice. Where is that lake in CA exactly?

Why do my attachments show up as a link instead of photos on the page like the above?
If you attach more than 1 photo they come up as links :p the photos above are url links to to photobucket;)

Just East of Herndon (North Fresno) in the Sierra National Forrest. I used to take my son up to Camp Oljeto at Huntington Lake (7000 feet) when he worked there one summer (getting ready for Philmont). Shaver is the lower lake on Hiway 168.

Very nice area.

Here is another pic from today. This shot was taken at work over lunch. Still snowing... We are up to about 15 inches in my area now.

Toriaj... hey GREAT shot. I love the light coming thru the trees. The Uintas are SO beautiful. I go fishing up at Mirror lake and Duck lake every spring ice melt with my father-in-law. I used to live in Provo, UT while attending BYU and it seems that I was always getting whisked away up in the Uintas some way or another... I just wish I was into photography back then! If you have anymore pictures of the beauty of Utah please post them. I am sure everyone will appreciate it!

Thanks!

Thanks, Esoterra! I have really enjoyed taking these pictures. Stopping on the side of the road, climbing down in the ditch to take pictures of the cattails ... :D I'll post more soon.

There are some great pictures on this thread!

It's amazing the crazy things we will do when we have a camera in our hands!
"Wait, I only need to climb down that embankment, cross that ditch without disturbing the snakes, climb up that moss covered rock..."

No kidding! I find myself VERY tempted to trespass on other people's property (or the highway department's property, or the railroad property) especially to take pictures of rock formations or old, broken down buildings.

These shots are around Lac Beauvert on the Jasper Park Lodge Grounds in Alberta Canada.
It was late November, the ice was starting to freeze, and the Lodge had all of their Christmas Decorations up. An enchanting spot for a relaxing time away from everything. I will post another shot. This was with my old digital - a Kodak 6490. I will be going back this November with my Panasonic FZ20.

Not actually a lake, just a hole in trout stream, late in the year.

This is Bear Lake in Utah.

Bear lake is a wonderful place to visit in the summer. I love how aqua blue/green the water can get. Most people that see it in a picture think that it has been touched up in Photoshop or something! We are having our family reunion there this summer, cant wait!

Yeah, Bear Lake is awesome. Next time, maybe I'll get some of that blue color in my shots. Have you ever been to Minnetonka Caves? I'm planning to visit them soon.

Nope. It was on my list of things to do before I moved to Vegas!

This is Bailey Lake in Star Valley, Wyoming. It is an easy 6-mile hike in.

This last photo looks soft here in the post ... it looks good in the original ... I kept posting it wrong, so maybe that was the problem.

Very nice. Good composition. Colours are really nice. Well worth the hike it looks like. On a side note, the pictures are a little blurry and lack some detail...did you bring your tripod on this hike? A quick USM touchup should help out! Very nice- I really like #2

Thanks for the comments, Esoterra. Nope, didn't take the tripod on the hike. I'll be sure to use it when I hike alone, though. Something I think I learned here, though, is to focus on the foliage at the bottom of the frame. If I focus on the subject in the middle of the frame, the rest looks out of focus. Would you agree? Or maybe I just need to use a smaller aperture. What do you think?

When I am shooting landscapes like your pictures above, I focus on the furthest object possible with my aperture between f11-f16 and even higher at times. I dont like to go on long hikes by myself for safety reasons, but if I do, I like the security a sturdy tripod offers against cougars, and such animals ;) hehe!~

Zac, your picture is a good example of great lighting on mountains. It sure is a great shot, and makes those mountains really pop out at you! Banff is a great place to take photos, and a warm and cozy place in the winter. Too bad it is over run with tourists, not to mention the commerce and buisness of the town has been taken over by foreign investors! What a bummer!

first of all thanks and second of all I did notice the tourist issue when i was there. everywhere you go theres hundreds of trousists and its somtimes allmost impossible to get into a restaurant. and i know i know... thats a dumb thing to say considering i am a tourist myself. but still just to many people go to banff but i recently went to another town not to far from banff named golden, B.C. its great there and not to many tourists.

lol ... I didn't want to take too long setting up my shots and make my family wait. I've never seen a cougar, but I did see a moose the other day. I was just on a short bike ride in the Bear Lake State Park. I hope the moose stays there and doesn't wander into the Walmart parking lot right across the way!

Thanks for the advice on the focus. So I could focus on the top of the mountain with a small aperture, and the foliage would be in focus? Awesome!

I've been away from the site more than usual this week ... I left the computer in Rock Springs for my husband to use. Boy do I miss it!
