One issue affecting decision is memory. I have tons of sony memory sticks. Batteries are another consideration. The P200 I believe takes a rechargeable lithium (charges in camera) and the w7 takes nimh aa rechargeables, charger included.

Both seem to generally suit my basic needs and are in my basic price range.

I'd also consider the DSC-W7 if someone says that 5 mp are just fine.

Thanks

get P200, the flash on W7 have more red eye, everything else is really similar.

W7 is also 7.2 megapixels, these 2 machines are really similar.

Good thing about NiMH is u can always use energizers when ure out of power, but NiMH have annoying behavior like discharging quickly, inaccurate power reporting, and memory effect.

Lithiums can be charged anytime, and it report stuff in "minutes" for the Sony's

NiMH's are cheaper, can be used in more cameras than a proprietary Li-ion, and are better for the environment.
