Anyone here getting severe CA from their 50 1.4s? Just about every shot I have with extreme contrast, purple fringing is happening.

It is possible that is one of the reasons most people buy the f/1.8.;)

I think most of us have the 1.8. There's a big difference between Canon's 1.4 and 1.8, but Nikon's differences are fairly subtle, except for price. Perhaps you could show us what you are talking about.

Are you using a lens hood? I've read a few threads here and there that suggest the older AF primes can suffer some serious CA on digital bodies, when used without a hood.

i dont have the pictures hosted anywhere...I'll try to get it up when/if I can.
I got a replacement lens from my retailer, tried it out in store, thought it looked good...then I took it home
It is occurring mostly indoors...I shot a sunset scene through a thick of branches and found very little CA there. But then shot a backlight portrait afterwards...awful...
sigh* back to the store.

I think we are suggesting that you buy the 50mm f/1.8...;)
