So I just bought a camera (Nikon D50) a month ago, (love it.. but I'm new to photo and still learning) and am going on a short trip.

Advice needed:
I'm going to Puerto Rico for 5 days or so, just a short vacation, and I want to take many pictures... what should I bring?

I only have 2 lenses, I figure I will just bring the 18-70mm one.
So, what I need is a bag/carrying case... what kind of bag should I get for my D50 with that kinda lens?
Also, a relative of mine said I should get a mini-tripod with flexible legs, because they are cheap and useful... agree?
Any particular things to look for?
Hm, also, any other accesories that would be useful? Any filters that aren't too expensive that I could bring along/use at home? I figure at least a UV filter is useful (any specific recs?), but if someone thinks a polarizer might be a good thing instead and can recommend me a good one, let 'er rip.

Not sure about the UV filter, I can not find anywhere how effective a UV filter is in getting rid of haze on a digital camera. But a polarizer is nice to bring along if it is sunny there.

Here is an example of how a polarizer (in this case a B&W) can affect the photo (don't mind the JPEG artifacts, I blame Photoshop):

I would suggest a spare battery and an extra memory card, they can fill up VERY quick! I dont know if you have a way to save the files from the card while youre there, so an extra may be a must! The mini tripod isnt a bad idea either, or a monopod could work too. Most of all, have a great time and enjoy your camera! Post some pics when you get back! :)

That's a darned good example of when to use a DP.

Coldrain. nice shot. It's Greece, by the look of it - Santorini, perhaps.

My holidays are in Greece this year (September-ish). Just hope the weather's as good as in your picture.

Shazkar: I'd go for extra memory and a mini-tripod. They really help with night shots. Just make sure it'll take the weight of your D50. Some cheapies have tended to slump under the weight of my D70....

The biggest thing I've come across is the memory...You'll fill up a 1Gb card pretty quickly, especially if you're shooting in RAW or larger jpeg settings. I'd recommend keeping the UV filter on also so when you're walking around you don't have to worry too much about scratching your lens. Have a good trip!
