First of all -- I definitely have a liking towards Nikon cameras. My first digital camera was the Nikon Coolpix 950 which I then followed up with the Coolpix 995 which I then followed up with a smaller more compact Coolpix 775. Having said that though -- I recently purchased a Nikon Coolpix P2 with WI-FI capabilities and was totally unimpressed with the overwhelming blue tones when shooting photos in Automatic Mode.

Even in manual mode -- I couldn't get the camera to really take great photos indoors -- so I'm ready to start looking at cameras outside of the Nikon brand.

I need advice on which camera to upgrade to in the 5-8 megapixel range that will give me great image quality. After reading the forums -- it seems like redeye is going to be a problem with most point and shoots -- so I can live with that. I also want an LCD that is viewable in direct sunlight. I'm most concerned about image quality and colors that are vivid -- not dull like my recent experience with the P2.

Something compact would be nice -- but it's not necessary.

Should I wait for the SD600 that has a 3.0 LCD or is there a camera available right now that will fill my needs? Price really isn't an object -- size is though.

Nikon is coming out with an impressive camera that I read about... "Coolpix L3 and 4... 8.1 pixels and anti shake technology... but I'm not sure what the ISO capability is, it might be only 400....

The Canon SD 700 coming out looks highly impressive....

Also, I really think the Fuji F30 which is coming out looks incredibly impressive.... Anti shake technology and ISO up to a whopping 3200....

I am no camera expert, I've just recently been studying up on the internet....

But it appears to me that a lot of the new cameras that may not have been released yet are looking really impressive!

I always heard Nikon was one of the best digital camera brands....

Most Nikon compacts are not all that great, since a number of years. And they all tend to have a colour balance that is a bit off.

You could do worse than to try out the Canon PowerShot A620 and SD550, the Canons do have an accurate colour balance, that do not make all photos look like rainy days. Of course the SD600 and SD700 may be worth waiting on, as is the mentioned F30, but it is hard to recommend them without having seen any results.
