 My local K-mart has a Canon A85 left from last year, as well as the newer A520. I have decided on the canon A series because I like the versatility and ease of use. I am not a professional photographer by any means, but appreciate the many options and the level of control that this inexpensive camera line offers. I have been reading up and trying to decide which to buy. Is the 520 really much of an improvement over the 85? I read that the optics are in fact better in the 85 than it's replacement (the 520), can anyone confirm or refute this? The A85 is selling for $170.00 while the A520 is $199.00, so the price difference is nominal and I can concentrate on just getting the best overall camera.

Anyone have any opinions?

How about waiting for the A530 in March? It's only $230 and has ISO 800, uses the Digic-II, has USB 2.0 instead of 1.1 (not sure it matters much though), and I think longer videos can be taken (up to 8 mins instead of only 30 secs?).

A520 is much better. Better lens, better focus, better aperture range, lighter, SD cards not CF cards, better sensor, two batteries not four (lighter again), better white balance ... and on and on and on.

A520 for sure!
