Hi guys,

I've contemplated buying a digital camera for a while now, I've particularly been watching the canons since They seem to be the industry leaders.

I have a strong passion for beautiful photos however I wasn't going to buy an SLR for I need something more "portable" that I could carry with me anywhere.

My father owns a Canon G3 and the photos I've seen from it are just awesome, and although the G cameras are a little bulkier than I'd like I still considered the G series for its stunning photos.

It has been said that the S series cameras are pretty close to the G series cameras and they seemed a compact alternative to the bulkier Gs, in the past I've petty much been trying to decide between the s60/s70 and the G6 however reading about the G6 it was said just about everywhere that the G6 photos come close to that of a DSLR, I recall reading on this site a post from Jeff Keller stating "On image quality alone the G6 wing big (over the s70)" with that in mind I've recently been seriously considering the G6.

Since the s80 came out it was said everywhere to have great image quality I wonder how much of an improvement that was over the s70 but I again found myself trying to decide between the G6 and the s80, since the G6 is now no longer available and it seems that canon (for the time being) will not be replacing it, it seems that the closest thing I'm left with is the s80.

My question now is, will I find in the s80 what I would have found in the G6 or at least close to it (which is photo quality that comes close to that of a DSLR)? If not does anyone have any better suggestion for an alternative to the G6?

Thank you very much to any one who could help.

The Canon A620 is much more comparable to the G6. Same sensor, 7mb, 4x zoom, swivel display.
Compare the following two photos:

G6:http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/powershot_g6-review/CRW_0017.JPG

Although the G6 of course has the better lens, the A620 is a very good camera, and more compact (like you want it to be).
