View Full Version : Help Please , what am I doing wrong !
Hello ,
How can I video a Tv that is playing a DVD ?????
I have a very unique Vintage Television that has modern NEC guts in it .
What I'm trying to do is get a Video of the TV playing a Movie , But every time I film it & play it back the picture is flickering in the camera.
What do I need to do , to film a working TV playing DVD Movie ?
I was trying to film the TV with a Sony V3
Thanks Peter
That is caused by the frequency (Hz) that the TV plays back video. When the TV displays andthing it scans it onto the screen from top to bottom. This happens so fast your eyes don't see it somewhere over 55 times per second. When you make a video of a TV or a CRT PC monitor the image sensor also scans the image in the same fashion. Onless these are perfectly matched you will see movement on the screen. If you match it you will normally have a vertical bar running across the picture. The same thing happens when you try to take a digital picture of a TV or CRT PC monitor. This is not the technical expanation but I hope you get the idea.

Correct! The only "TV" image that can be smoothly filmed is a "non-interlaced" signal also known as progressive scan. The feature is available on high end sets, tube/LCD/Plasma when displaying a progressive scan DVD or HD signal (480p or 720p only - not 1080i).

If your TV has separate audio and video outputs (look for RCA-type jacks on the back of the set), you can connect these to your video camera's audio and video inputs. You won't be able to do this with a digital still camera, but you can do it with a camcorder if your TV has the audio and video outputs.
