Lokng time lurker/reader of the site.
I bought my current Fuji FinePix S602Z several years ago baised off the reviews from here.

I very much want to upgrade to a better camera with a few features that disappoint me with the S602Z.

First would be low light conditions. This camera is terrible in low light conditions, indoors and outdoors.

Second is speed. Many a missed pictures because the picture is not snapped the second you push the button.

Third would be I am looking towards a true 5+ MP camera. Not this interpolation of 6.1 like I have now. Large shots are noticably fuzzy when printed.

The wife would prefer a true Digital SLR. She currently has an old Minolta Maxxum 530si that she loves and has few different lens for it.

I have read many mixed reviews on the Canon XT and the Nikon D50. Both seem to have issues and no-one really mentions low light abilities.
Would also consider the KM D5 or D7, might some me some money on the lens :)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

wow several reads but no one replies.

Anyone have any opinions between the Rebel XT and KMD5 at least?

The low light abilities are mentioned in about every review, and both are very good in that area. The D50 has the least measurable noise. The KM 5D is out of production and you will have to hurry to find a new one. It is worthwhile though if you have worthwhile Minolta AF lenses.

So, if your wifes Minolta lens selection is worthwhile, go for a KM 5D (but hurry). If not, both the Nikon and the Canon are very capable cameras and both deliver the best image quality what the entry level DSLRs have to offer.
(And the best RAW conversion software from all manufacturers too).

I do not know enough about her camera gear to know if her lens are great or not.

She has a Quantray 7-300mm (1:4-5:6) for Minolta AF and a Aspherical 28-80mm.
She also has several filters that screw onto the lens.
