Found these from October last year. Good day out with the kids.

Near McPhillamy Park. Tom wanted his picture taken near the cars as they prepared to go down through the Esses. The elevation changes of this racetrack are amazing. The cars actually have to change their brakepads at least once during this 1,000km endurance race. EOS-1Ds with EF 28-70mm f/2.8 L USM @ 28mm. 1/250s @ f/5.6, ISO 200:

These cars are V8 Supercars; part of a two-make series between Ford and GMH. They use 5.0 Litre engines imported from the 'States (Chev for the Holdens) which produce around 620BHP. They get up to around 300km/h at the end of Conrod Straight.

Time to walk down the track to exit. The circuit is called Mount Panorama and is a public road 51 weeks of the year. Immediately above the sign in the far distance is Skyline heading down to the Esses, The Dipper, Forrest's Elbow, and then on to Conrod Straight, Caltex Chase, (Mrs) Murray's Corner, on to Pit Straight. This was taken at the exit of The Cutting.

A gradient of 1 in 6 makes this the steepest part of the circuit (and one of the steepest in the world for elevation changes).

This is where Craig Lowndes hit the wheel, Jim Richards hit a Kangaroo (last year), and Greg Murphy & Marcus Ambrose almost tore each other's throats out after a coming-together which almost stopped the race!

Mount Panorama, Bathurst is one of the world's most challenging and revered motor racing circuits. Many of the world's greatest drivers/riders talk about it with similar fondness to Spa, Isle of Mann etc.

Nice collection of shots there Christian. I've never seen or shot that kind of racing. Would definitely like too though!
That one shot you have showing how close the photogs get to the track... at the dirt track, I'd be standing right on the edge of the grass to the inside. That's how close I got. Some people called me insane, but they only go about 112 KM/H.

It was just local dirt track racing. Micro Sprints, Dirt Bikes & Go-Karts every now and then, and some lower budget stock cars. None of that high end European street car stuff you guys have!
I have a small sampling here (http://photobucket.com/albums/a304/cdifoto/path/) and here (http://www.cdi-ink.com/sprints).

Are Holdens actually made in Australia? I wasn't sure. But anyway we have American clunkers...you all have smooth Aus/Euro machines.

The Holden Commodore (large family car with sedan/wagon/ute variants) is the only model that is made here in the GMH range (GM owns Holden).
Ford makes the Falcon here. Toyota makes Camrys, and Mitsubishi makes a large car called the 380 (I think you guys know it is the Galant?).
Holden exports cars back to the 'States too, our locally designed and built (albeit with a Chev V8) Monaro is sold over there as a Pontiac GTO. It is basically a Holden Commodore Coupe (ie; only two doors).

Sherlock you're a dog!:D
Yeah she's just starting to get a bit of interest up there. To put it in your terms; lots of Rednecks up on Top of the Mountain. Most non Rednecks avoid the Top beacuse there is a lot of antisocial behaviour going on - but that's mostly after-hours (the Bathurst 1000 event is held over four days so they camp up there).
The Top offers panoramic views and a close-up vibe that can't be beat. Besides, there's a little bit of redneck in all of us now and then don't you think?:D

Yeah I'm glad I had my younger daughter with me to help. If it was just me and the boys I probably would have brought the P&S.:)
The 300 surprised me that day, in the past I haven't had what I would call first class results with it and the 2x Extender - but a couple came out alright. Maybe it was the camera.

She's very pretty Christian. If you don't already, I suspect you'll have your hands full with her and all her would-be boyfriends in a couple of years. :)
Now back to photography: It's an excellent portrait. I see she's backlit a bit by the sun. Were you using anything to fill her from the front?

Yeah thanks, I think I used a soft-gold reflector for these. Was taken with my neighbour's 20D and my EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM.
I favour backlit beacuse you obviously don't get harsh light across the face and you get the bonus of a hair-light.
Background: she had been bugging me for years that she wanted to try some talent work, so I took these and sent them off to a few agencies. One responded positively and she now does a bit of work for Bonds (a clothing company) and Big W (a major retail chain):

It's not hard to get moms to love you. Just find some of her childhood pics on the wall, look at them carefully and tell her you now know where her daughter's beauty comes from...and that you hope time is as sweet on her daughter as it is on her. Works like a charm.

Peter Brock; Australian motor-racing legend - dead at 61.:(
Peter won this race (the annual 1,000km touring car event at Mount Panorama, Bathurst) a record nine times over a career spanning thirty years.

In this country, Peter was arguably more famous than Steve Irwin - both will be missed terribly.:( :( :(
