well, i am a gadget freak so i'm always looking for the next best...ie by yrs end id like to have the nikon D200.....BUT canon released this 30D, now that looks interesting!!! i'd have to play with its menu wheel....not sure if i'd like it, but my buddy LOVES It...
here is why i am lookin at the 30D
1. it appears it is better suited for sports/low light hockey and performs much better above ISO 800
2. they added spot metering and a 2.5" LCD, really disliked the 1.8"
3. its 8mp...not that big of a deal
4. the battery grip with shutter release and controls on it
5. likely cheaper than the D200
6. better AF performance?
pluses for the D200 over the 30d
1. larger view finder
2. 10MP
3. its nikon
so, now i dont know to drop $$ on the 70-200 VR if i do want to do this
to help ease my mind i took some of the rather crude photos i took of hockey and such ranging from ISO 500-1600, and did some noise ninja on the 1600 to compare an ISO 1600 adjusted and non adjusted
well, at 4"x6" you CAN BARELY notice the noise...even in the non adjusted, i believe i read it here (dont worry about noise, we are all too picky and OF COURSE u can see it at over 150% zoom on the monitor..
ene one of my ill exposed iso 1600/ f2.8/ 1/320ss looked not bad at 5"x7"...focus was off even
i'd like to hear everyones input....i'd liek to just get the SB800 and the VR lens and be done with it and hand it down to my wife when i upgrade to the D200, or wait for Nikons newr release??
bottom line, i think i am pretty happy with the pics even at ISO 1600 from the stands at the rink (i have to think with the VR and ice level between the 70mm and 140mm range it would perform much better closer to the action, with the sb800 as well)
ps, i hate electronics..
cory
let me have it coldrain and others
