waterproof cases

Well this might not exactly be in the right forum but...
I am looking to get some kind of camera bag preferrably that is somewhat water resistant but also with some cushioning too for backpacking. I googled waterproof camera bags and several sites popped up selling waterproof bags for really cheap, and they claimed you could even take them down to 30 ft and take pictures(through the bag) - no cushion though obviously. I was wondering if this is complete BS because I haven't heard anything about these things before. If they do work does underwater pic quality suffer alot?
Any other suggestions about good backpacking cases would be great.

canon has made some waterproof cases for its models

yeah I know they do, but they're only good to 9 ft. I think. These bags claim good to 30 ft, and they're about $20 versus the $120 of the custom fit cases. This is partly why I am suspicious. Anybody know?
