Hi, I'm planning on getting my first dSLR. After a lot of research and thinking, I'm finally decided on Canon 350D. However, PMA show is just around the corner.

Due to circumstances, I have to make the decision now. Do you know if Canon is announcing a new SLR in the range of the 350D? What do you think, should I just get the 350D?

Thanks in advance. :)

No one knows for surfe, but it is likely the 350D will not get a successor this PMA. The 20D will get a successor. You can wait though till the 21st? Canon will announce new products in a day...

The replacement of 20D is due at PMA. But 350D isn't due yet, the replacement should come somewhere in August. But there are plenty of rumors about sub $500 dSLR by Canon, which they called as 3000D, but this thing is merely a rumor, so don't count on it. But the main point is, 350D isnt due for an upgrade.

But there is nothing wrong on waiting for PMA next week, because many companies probably saving their announcements. Olympus have the new stuff with live preview, Sony is on the verge of announcing their dSLR which supposed to be innovative. Or even Canon's 3000D, if it's on;y $400... who knows.

All of these are rumors, I know nothing about them. The 3000D is rumored to have less focus points, as well as 6MP, and worse continuous shooting capability.

I have time until the end of the week. So I guess I can still hear first Canon's announcement.

Is it true that 350D's replacement due in August? Is this info reliable? Or just rumours?

Wow, $400 for an SLR, they're getting cheaper by the year. Question is, why do companies want people to get SLRs? I mean, those price segment is crowded already with P&S. Unless they want to lure people to upgrade to more pricey SLRs...

There is no rumor that has any value about a 350D successor. And any info about a rumored "3000D" is also without value. So, you will just have to wait and see what canon will introduce.

FWIW, I have 2 of the 350Ds and find them to be very capable cameras. Sure I'd like to have a more professional level camera body but my budget goes into lenses. Digital bodies are more disposable than their film bretheren.

Because after you have a camera body, you're tempted to buy lenses, which is where you can really spend some serious dough. ;)

If you're upgrading from a P&S and want the ability to compose in LCD, you might also consider the new Olympus E-330 with its live-preview.

Actually, I was really tempted by Olympus E-500 as it has good reviews and a lot cheaper, too. Sadly, Olympus products are often lagging in my place (the curse of living in smaller city), the stores don't even know about E-500. :(
