right now, i am still extremely utterly confuse in whether to get the KM 7D or 20D. so, i decided to post post here and ask the 7D users what you hate about the 7D. thanks for helping me make my choice:)

Well, the only thing I really hate is that KM is getting out of the camera business. As far as my 7D goes, there isn't anything I "hate" about it. I like it very much, especially because it is so similar in features and use to my Maxxum 7, which makes it very intuitive for me to use.

I have to agree with Fred. I love the fact that I can change just about everything using a button or knob, and not have to use the menus at all.

I have to admit, that if I was starting from scratch I would go with Canon. Mostly because you can be sure they will be around in 10 years, and still coming out with new stuff. KM has sold to Sony, and I haven't seen anything from Sony saying that they will come out with an A-mount dSLR anytime soon or make new lenses/flashes. Until Sony commits fully to the Minolta A-mount I would go with Canon or Nikon.

Sony will come out with DSLRs by summer (unless they have a big PMA surprise), you can count on that. Also, Minolta will keep producing lenses for Sony, and Tamron will also keep on making Minolta AF lenses.
The Minolta mount is the reason Sony made a deal with Minolta, it is the only way they can get into the DSLR game.

If that is right (and I have no reason to believe it is not) I'll breathe a little easier. :)
In that case Satay what I would do is go to a reputable brick store and try the 7D and 20D out. Perhaps buy them both, try them out "in the wild" and then keep the one you like the best.
I know that doesn't help much ;) but it's the best I got :p

I never heard serious complaints from any 7D users, except some people reported the 'Lazy Eye" problem.

I use a 5D, and the main reason is cost and Anti-Shake. I really cannot live without anti shake on all lenses. It depends on theuser, if you need it too, dont hesitate to get the KM. Canon's IS lenses do well, but they don't come for free, you have to pay premium for them.

KM also have a good valued excellent flash system, read this article:
http://www.friedmanarchives.com/flash.htm

The only problem for most KM users is the Sony transfer thingy, but as I am also a Sony user, and love them too, I don't have any problem at all about this transfer.

It's a good thing that users in this forum react positively at this kind of thread, unlike my old thread asking the bad things of canon, which turns into a living hell right from the first reply;) .

thanks for the comments given so far. just wondering, what are the main differences that will cause me to go for the 7D rather than the 5D? the price between them is really different though having the same pixel count.

Well, the 7D has a knob or button for almost all the things you could need to change during shooting, whereas the 5D uses the menus for some of changes.
The LCD of the 7D has more pixels and is therefore sharper than the 5Ds.
The 5D is lighter and a bit smaller if I remember correctly, so it is more handy.See if you can find a copy of Shutterbug from February of this year. It has a review of the 5D and a nice chart with the differences between the 5D and 7D. Or (as I just found out) you can read it here: http://shutterbug.com/equipmentreviews/amateur_digital_slrs/0206konica/

A simple nice word to aid you probably this one:

You can produce pictures at exactly the same quality when you use either 5D or 7D.;)

The difference is physical, like battery grip, magnesium body, heavier, and like everyone said, more control. But it's basically the same camera. Oh I recall that 7D have better continuous mode.

I sure wouldn't say "hate" about it, but I've noticed in my first week with the 7D that the exposure info readout inside the viewfinder is very hard to read in bright, sunny conditions. I wish it had adjustable intensity. Other than that, it's perfect. Oh, and it's heavier than other cameras I'm used to, but maybe that's no bad thing. I consider it a great plus to be able to glance at the controls and see exposure comp and WB settings.

This is what I've been reading too. Supposedly Sony started development last June on a new DSLR. Most guesses that I've read is that it will most likely be a 7D with a 8mp sony chip and a Sony label. Also I saw stated that KM was being entrusted to manufacture them. Since Sony wants to capture 25% of the DSLR market in the next few years I think it means good things down the road.

What do I hate most about my 7D? Which one? The one that the flash quit working on after one day, and it took a month to replace, or the second one on which the anti-shake mechanism freaked out on after three days and shut the whole camera down? I must say I am very disappointed in Minolta's quality control. I have bought nothing but Minolta equipment since buying my first camera 22 years ago, but I am considering selling everything and going Canon. I have never had a problem until I decided to go digital, and I waited until Minolta brought out the 7D. Now this. Maybe the third time will be a charm?

I would refer the potential buyers of 7Ds to read the neighboring thread about quality control and repair problems. Caveat emptor.

you know, for over a year I loved my 7D, I waited patiently for KM to come out with a DSLR, bought the first one that came to town and it was great.

In the past 4 months (starting about a week after the warranty was done) the camera wouldn't power on...2 months later I get it back, it sat for about a month before I had cause to use it due to holidays and such...turn it on, first pic I try to take the shutter locks...now the shutter locks every time I try to take a picture so it's going to have to go back out on repair AGAIN!

I am sooooooo close to selling all my stuff and going to canon. I am beyond PO'd. Never mind I'll probably have to pay for this fix to even though it wasn't doing that before I sent it out the first time!! GRRRR!
