I just purchased a D50 with a Nikon 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 lens. I will be using it for the first time this weekend at a convention which is fairly well lit. I was wondering what would be the best settings for taking pics in these conditions. I will not be zooming in and would like to have the whole object focused. I would also prefer not to use the flash if possible. The pictures I am wanting to take would be similar to the ones below. Thanks in advance for any help.

If possible, use a monopod or tripod.
f/8.0 or higher (again, if possible)
shutter speed should be over 1/50 (if hand holding)
Shoot in RAW and white balance when you get back to your computer.
Good Luck

ok, a little more info from me. I will be shooting by hand and not spending alot of time taking each picture. The pictures don't have to be perfect, I just want to take focused and well lit pictures to be resized for an online photo album like this. http://bxtrememotorsports.com/indy05/450r/

Well I would suggest a tripod or monopod too... Unless it's very very well lit, your going to need a slow shutter speed to get a crisp picture (f8 or higher, maybe F10 or F13) of the whole area...
Maybe try F8, shutter speed of 1/60, no flash and ISO 1600 and see how your balance is in the metering...
