Ok I'm poor. I think we all know that by now. HOWEVER, since I opted out of that Mamiya MF camera, that money can go towards a prime if I really really want it to. The seller screwed me around for 2 weeks and finally refunded my payment today. However, he refunded it as a payment supposedly from his work's PayPal account, rather than a refund from his own, which cost me $8 and change unncessarily. BUT, I had already filed a PayPal complaint before that *refund*. He says PayPal locked his account when I filed the complaint, which blocked him from refunding me properly. Apparently he's a less than stellar seller if they locked his account for this. They usually only do that when someone has quite a few bruises on their account first.

Anyway to make a long story even longer, I have my $270 back minus that 8 bucks in fees, and it looks like I'll win the dispute and get the original $270 refund as well. Since he screwed me around for 2 weeks about my own refund, should I sit on his cash a little bit (he admittedly had already spent my payment) and use it as a no-interest loan to get the prime and a couple memory cards...just to let him sweat? Refund the money later of course.

Or should I do the honest thing and refund him immediately if I win the dispute...?

The badass in me says go ahead and spring for the stuff...and let him be without HIS cash for 2 weeks.... :D

I haven't made any real purchases for awhile. Couple weeks at least. :p

Seriously though what I want to do is start shooting live bands that come in and play a local bar/restaurant/college hangount. I figure it's gotta be loaded with chicks that I can hand my cards to, plus I can work on my nonexistant skills in the mixed lighting situations.

I can pick up the lens on my own dollar. But I can add a couple of 2GB Extreme IIIs to the mix and save on shipping, and do it at his expense for a couple weeks. ;)

Wait. . . I'm so confused. Why do you have "His Money?" I thought this was your money that you got back?

I don't know.

You only live once and you can't take it with you!

50 1.4 is waiting. . . =) If the money was already going to be gone. . . and if you figured correctly the first time, you won't need the money for bills. . . You're going to get it anyway.

I know the 85 1.8 is on your list as well. I'd hit up the 50 first. But, then again, if I had the 50 I'd probably say get the 85! LMAO. Thanks for all the help right? I'd say if you are shooting in clubs taking photos of bands the 50 would be the hot lens to have here.

I don't know.

I have one refund, minus $8 because he sent it as a random "send money" from a different PayPal account rather than a refund from the one I paid to. Therefore as far as PayPal is concerned, I have $270 cash coming from an unknown person for no real reason (no product or item connected with it) but it cost me $8 and change to accept the *payment*. I had filed a PayPal complaint earlier and it looks like I'll win it, so I should get my $270 back AGAIN, from the REAL account, as a PROPER refund. (Thus $270 I'm really owed without fees being charged to me PLUS the $270 minus fees that he send from another account). I'll be sitting on $532. Some of it mine, some of it actually his. Got it?

$270 would have already been gone, but I can put some other of my own cash towards the lens and hood which is no big deal. I'm just debating whether I wanna be a little on the devilish side and use the money he sent me THAT ISN'T THE REAL REFUND to get some SanDisk Extreme III 2GB cards since they're only $98 from B&H. I could save myself a few bucks shipping by adding it to this order instead of waiting and paying more for shipping by adding it to a new, separate order.

Technically, since he didn't buy anything from me and he sent me this cash from another random account, I could keep it if I wanted to be an asshole. There's no product or service tied to it for him to file a PayPal complaint on me.

Dude, it sucks, but I always live by the principal "you reap what your sow". He'll get his eventually. You, on the other hand, don't seem to be an a**hole. Give the guy his money back right away with a nice note thanking him for the refund (you did after all back out of your ebay "contract" with him). Not only will you feel better about yourself, but you'll be storing up good karma as well.

You'll never regret taking the "high road", and "killing people with kindness" has always worked out really well for me.

Just call me "Jimminy"...

Maybe they help for raw shooters, but IMHO "EXTREME" cards are overrated. I have one and five other normal speed cards. With my shooting style, I can never tell the difference...

I just ordered two 4GB CF and one 1GB SD Sandisk Extreme IIIs myself. Couldn't resist the price-drop and I needed some redundancy.

50 f/1.4 huh? Mine goes up on ebay tomorrow, along with the 300 f/4 IS and the 85 f/1.2 L.

I have some standard cards but they're extremely slow. I only have 2 decent cards. One's a 4GB Kingston Elite Pro (plenty fast really) and the other is a 512MB standard Kingston which happens to write fairly fast. The 1GB Standard Kingston isn't even worth putting in the camera, and the 2 standard SanDisk 512s aren't much better.

The standard cards I have are so slow I have to wait for single jpegs to write. And reading a single jpeg takes about 5 seconds to retrieve. That's pathetic.

The Extreme IIIs are just cheap enough that I figure I might as well get 'em instead of the Ultra IIs which are only 9 bucks less.

CDI, the latest test on Rob Galbraith's site seems to suggest that the Ultra IIs are marginally faster than Extreme IIIs for JPEG (but not RAW).

It doesn't make sense to me why, but if there's some truth in it they may be a better option for you.

Yeah I know. I'm not that kinda guy but he jerked me around for so long and kept lying about the refund. Who knows...I may not even win the dispute. I woulda given the money back eventually but I woulda just let him sweat it out a little. I couldn't live with myself if I actually kept it permanently.

He admitted to using my cash as a small no-interest loan when I called him on the phone to insist about getting my refund though. That irritated me quite a bit.

Thanks for that bit of info. I checked it out just now and it's showing with my XT that the Extreme IIIs still come out ahead in both formats.

4.877MB/s write speeds for the Extreme III in JPEG, 6.263 RAW

4.874MB/s write speeds for the Ultra II in JPEG, 6.057 RAW

Extremely marginal improvement but the price difference, IMO, is so small I might as well get the Extremes.

Does that make you Yoda.....or Senator (whatever-his-name-was)...? Just don't call me Ann-ey! But if you see Natalie Portman around, send her my way. She's on my Celebrity-that-it's-OK-to-sleep-with list! (Though she's not one of the female celebrities that's on both Melanie and my lists...:( - did I mention how cool my wife is!)

And no you didn't mention how cool your wife is, can she have a chat with my wife sometime?!

Holy testicle tuesday Batman!

Theres a wealth of material in this thread. I can bearly focus.

First off. Christian - Selling the 50 1.4 and the 85 1.2 ? What gives? I thought you were a fan of the 85. . . freeing up some cash for the upcoming announcements? Mind sharing whats the deal with the selling of these two lenses? TYIA

Jamie - N. Portman yah!. . . hubba hubba hubba - If the wife "says okeechobee shes okey dokey!"

I understand now Don. I'd sit on his money until you get a return. when you get the return send his back and let paypal eat another 8 bucks off it for him - that way he just lost $16 bucks on the whole deal for doing this the wrong way. Id call that square. But I'm not up to speed on this whole ebay|paypal thing. Put yourself in his shoes. Whats fair for him. Is it fair for you? that will tell you what to do.

I would say let a third party hold the money, Like myself. :D

My thoughts exactly! I'll let B&H be that third party! :D :p

(I'd return his cash eventually anyway...I'm just tempted to use it for something else in the meantime like he did with mine instead of refunding me right away.)

Where did you see the Extreme 2GB cards for $98? I just checked B&H and they are listed as 109.95. The Ultra IIs are 89.95.

B&H Sandisk 2GB (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=search&Q=&b=1083&a=158_1128&a=568_4852&mnp=0.0&mxp=0.0&shs=&ci=1097&ac=&Submit.x=7&Submit.y=7&Submit=Go)

Type "psjan" into the search box, then sort by brand SanDisk. You'll see 'em then.

The 50 and 85 are going because neither supports ETTL-II, and I suspect that these models will be refereshed/updated/enhanced as part of the PMA announcement.

The 300 is going beacuse I really don't use that FL much for PAID work. And I may need some extra cash to chip in for replacements for the above two.

I also reckon the EOS-1Ds Mark II is due to be 'N'd at PMA as well - I've had my eye on that puppy for a while and an N version might be enough for me to release the trigger.

Besides, I've had a better than expected year revenue wise and will need a tax-break in July to off-set.
