A new 10D for $55 more than a new XT? [XT $744.95 | 10D $799.95]

Both B&H prices. keh wants $769 for the XT new or about 800 for a 10D in excellent condition + battery grip. . . not too shabby.

Anyway. I won't be making any rash decisions, especially before the announcement next week from Canon at PMA. But, I may be purchasing a second camera here in the near future - My girlfriend expressed interest in getting into photography but hasn't because of money reasons. It will also serve as a backup or second body in the event that I need one in the future. Hence my interest in asking this question. Other than the body size of the 10D being a plus as it is a little larger than the XT, why would anyone buy a new 10D if a new XT is $55 cheaper?

I'd like to here your thoughts on this one. . .

By the way if it was my decision, I'd buy the 20D or its upgrade [35D or 50D] for myself and let the GF use the XT - which is most likely the route I'll take.

The ONLY reason I can think of is if someone favors build quality over speed/ISO performance.

Personally I think the 10D should be about $50 cheaper than the XT because of the speed/ISO performance. IMHO, it's old technology and should be priced accordingly, regardless of the build.

I'd get her an XT since you have one. You can share batteries! :D OR wait till after PMA and get a 20D or its replacement if you can afford, then let her use the XT.

Hmm yes. Good idea Don! Weeeeee =) Is there an echo in here. in here. in here.

but I agree. The only thing I could come up with is a person that favored the build quality over the better ISO performance of the XT.

Build quality and usability...the 10D (like the 20D) drives much better than an XT. Other than that ...

IMHO, you'd be a fool to pay that much for a 10D, when they're going for around $450 used on FM. Now that's a bargain!

gotchya. Thanks bud.

Thanks Jay-Dubya. Thats just my point. Why would someone pay that much for a new 10D when you could get a new XT for cheaper - Clearly, a used 10D would be considerably less - And something I would consider for my purposes should I need to consider a second body - all things being equal after the PMA of course.
