Well, here I want to know what its drawbacks are to you, XT users. To me, I'll list my drawbacks, but please dont comment on my list, its for me, I want to know your drawbacks. And this time, I won't compare the XT with any model, neither KM or Nikon ;)
Most of you may already know that my XT is gone, but some friends asked me what drawbacks it has, as unbiased as possible, so I wont compare with my KM here.
Even if you love it, you should feel some drawbacks. Share it here
Here are mine:
-Hand grip too small, and camera/lens weight felt somehow unbalanced
-Ergonomics made it harder to hold steadily (due to the compactness)
-Can't delete multiple files at once (multi, not all)
-Can't create folders and select REC folders
-I would love ISO 3200, even if its noisy, will be useful in emergencies
-Stupid CF door
-No spot metering, make many focus error when in the center there is multiple objects. I also have many focus errors (probably the lens/bad copy probs)
-Selecting AF points is not that convenient (have to scroll)
-Small LCD, and cannot Zoom jump (e.g. directly to 5x or 10x at a touch), have to wait for it to zoom little by little.
-Small OVF hard to manual focus
About positives, I believe all of us have endless list of good things for the XT.
I don't want to start a fight his time, I need honest opinions :o)

Another silly post. What is it with you guys? I do not get it. If you want, I will give you a list of drawbacks of your KM 5D, the different Nikons and Pentax'es and Olympusses, and maybe only then from the Canon EOS 350D.
Now stop your silly stuff, be happy with your own camera and drop the nonsense posts. Thank you.

Me neither. If anybody wants negatives about the various offerings from Canon, Olympus, Nikon, M-K, or whoever, they can find plenty of critiicisms with the search function. Get a grip! The guy/gal behind the camera is what's important. Beyond that, choose your own ergonomics and shooot!

I find myself in agreement with coldrain (hey, it happens...;) ).
Opinions are fine, and we all have them, and appreciated when they add to the general knowlege.
Your intentions may be good, and we all appreciate your input, but we've been down this road, ad nausium. If you want to read "critique discussions" pick a dSLR thread (or any camera thread) and go back a few months, or over to the current Pentax dSLR forum...
I've been sucked into a few of these "debates" myself over the years, more than I like to admit, and I can attest that nothing is accomplished by the discussion...
... So shame on me.
Final notes (and maybe helpful hints):
- Handling problem? = Battery grip (yes it's extra cost, but it works).
- I'm pretty sure that spot metering is an exposure function.
- If you want ISO 3200 (and ISO 2000/2500) just use ISO1600 and under-expose by 1EV (and 0.3/0.7) and recover details in PS. Make sure you have Noise Ninja as you will need it.
In answer to your reply: In the end you're right... I don't have to read these threads. But they do suck up a lot of Jeffs bandwidth.;)

Agreed with everyone else so far...even George! :D :p
User A: "Blah blah blah my camera has this and yours doesn't blah blah blah."
User B: "Oh yeah well MY camera DOESN'T have THAT annoying glitch YOURS has blah blah blah...."
User C (only one with some sense): "So guys, how long have you had your cameras?"
User B: "Just got it an hour ago from B&H! :D "
User A: "Oh I haven't ordered it yet. I can't decide if I want the kit lens or if I'm going to skip it by getting the body only and adding something better."

1. Likely your question wasn't fully understood. English is not your primary language.
2. Asking for the "drawbacks" from a brand owner may not be as good a question as you thought it was.
3. Places like Amazon and dozens of others have "owner/user" reviews, people are pretty candid there discussing what they like and what they don't care for on the brand/model they bought.
4. I'll do everyone a favor and not repeat my quote about a box with a pinhole in it :o
5. Ok here's where I get to sound like Jeff - my user/owner review of my KM 5D is "coming soon" in which forum members will find out if KM/Sony will be sending me cigars or scratching me off their holiday gift list*
Ok everyone, time to hold hands and kiss and make up.
* disclaimer: Comment not to be taken seriously, they don't even know who I am

First of all, your original post did not say that your friend was thinking of buying an XT. Don't get all hot and bothered that we did not assume this information.
If your friend is thinking of buying an XT, I would suggest you tell him to go to the following address and browse through the posts.
http://www.dcresource.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=11
I don't think that the people here enjoy repeating the same information over and over just because someone is too lazy to look through the posts. This way, your friend can also see what we have to say, not your understanding or misunderstanding of what we have to say.

actually What I need is a point-form input, not debates, nor fighting. I can read xt vs blah xt vs bleh anywhere, but those threads usually filled with fighting and arguing, that only a specific issue is talked about over and over again

And do you honestly think that if someone posts drawbacks to any camera, someone else won't follow up with another post disagreeing to those drawbacks? It will end up being like any other thread with a debate about whether something is really a drawback or not, so why rehash/repost comments that have already been discussed?

The reason all the replies are really strange is that your post looks
an awful lot like flamebait (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flamebait). It is hard for most of us to imagine a productive answer to your original question.
If you were actually trolling (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll) for posts full of emotion, but otherwise content free, well, you supplied the first such post.
Congrats,

This is off the topic (hint, hint, HINT) but one of the things I like about this forum is getting exposed to other professionals. If it were not for this thread I would likely never have discovered Clyde's website, which shows an impressive talent for art. I especially like the one listed under "Faces".
Great work, Clyde!
Ok, can we kill this thread now and everybody go back to their knitting?

i noticed you edited your post to be more reasonable. but I think the main problem is that the prologue of the text isnt read properly, you and they directly attracted to the point list.
btw, at the dpreview forum, all of them is a canon owner, in canon forum, and they happily share what they wish could've been better.

I'm not complaining to Jeff, I'm complaining to the personals who cant (or don't) read properly and got flamed without a bait, and throwing ridiculous comments altogether before without any fact/prove on my intentions. those are very stupid. Or thats probably the reason why the regulars here is only you, coldrain, and another few 'senior' members ? (dont take this too serious, this is just a bait). Please help Jeff, support the forums, be friendly to guests, don't shoo away his guests. Hope you see the point? ('you' here is a plural)

Wow, 17 posts already... doh! Make that 18.
The bottom line is that you didn't really need to start this thread. This is a conversation between you and your friend, and we don't really need to be part of it unless either of you have specific questions about dSLR's or some new information to add.
With the thread titled "Please list some drawbacks of Canon XT" and then listing items that you think are drawbacks, is like saying; "here is what I think sucks about the XT" Maybe something was lost in translation, but please understand that, in fact, we have seen this as the beginning of many "flame fests" here in the past.
I don't think that our intention was/is to ban, or censor (which we can't, and wouldn't, do anyway), but to call your attention to a possible poor choice and presentation of topics.
There are enough reviews, and critiques, on-line to keep your "freind" busy for days, without leaving the door open, here, for drop-in flamers. When you post here, there are 1000 readers, to every participant, so you are not just talking to the regulars, but to a much larger audience.
The choice of self-exile is yours, but I'm sure that we would prefer that you continue to add to the group knowledge base, and try not to repeat what has already been repeated many times.
I think that this thread has finally matured, and moved beyond repetitive negative rhetoric, and it looks like we are just trying to point future discussion in that direction.
Thanks.
My one gripe about most DSLRs (including the XT) is the use of unique batteries. I'd rather they all followed the Pentax route of 4xAA batteries. Sure, you can get battery grips but they take 6 batteries. Show me a commonly available 6AA battery charger that I can find in Wal-Mart, K-Mart or their ilk.

I gotta tell you - I ignored this thread for the very reason clyde brought up and exactly what George is saying - I opted to ignore than envolve myself in another one of these so called Flamebait threads. But if you are sincere in your quest to help your friend make a difficult choice I can live with that.
A word of advice first though, some of your comments lately can be easily missinterpreted - I commend you for writing in English which does not seem to be your first language. If it is your first language I apologize for any offense you may have taken to the previous sentence; but I was under the assumption that English is not your first language. You seemed so sensitive when people were not understanding exactly what you were after with your post. When being a new comer to a forum I learned that it will take time for people to learn your style of writing and personality. Its imperative to understand this fact.
If you want my take on the XT and perhaps some areas in which I would like to see improvement or better yet, attributes which I will look for when I upgrade, I'll gladly list these.
Bigger body.
Faster more accurate AF.
More FPS.
Better/Bigger LCD
Thats it.
None of the controls bother me at all because they are very easy for me to get used to, button combinations included in this. I grew up playing NES, Super NES, Sega, Play station, PS2 - So button combinations I have been trained to use all my life. LOL :D
I hope that reponse is a little more on target with what you had in mind.

My subtle point - I am just waiting around for the replacement to drop the 20Ds price - until, that is, I'm bit by the "must have the latest and greatest" bug. But currently, i think the 20D is all I need for now.

Rhys,
6AA battery charger? try 8 along with the ability to charge 9V C D AAA with Energizer's offering. Picked it up for 20 bucks or so at Target. Not too easy to find a link on the net for it but here it is:
