Hi
I've just bought a Canon A620. How do I know how fast my SD card needs to be to match the camera's capabilities?
Thanks!

A Sandisk Ultra II or Ultra II Plus is a great match for the camera. It will keep up with the burst mode and video modes of the DIGIC II processor.

I'm not sure you need Ultra-II, certainly not for the video. My SD300 has the exact same video modes and works fine with the regular Sandisk Card. It's possible that the burst mode might push the card to the limits, but it doesn't for 4 MP 2.6fps on my camera.

I'm not convinced you need a fast card, but I'm willing to be shown otherwise. I suspect that you wouldn't max out a regular Sandisk card.

You probably won't see much difference between normal and high speed cards. I read an article one time on how memory cards affect camera speed and the article basically stated that the only time you will see a difference is if you have a higher end SLR (20d and up) The point and shoots really don't have the abillity to transfer the images from the buffer to the memory card fast enough.
For the price difference you should just get the higher speed card, but I honestly wouldn't expect too much difference in the speed. With my 20D (and Sandisk Ultra II) I can only take one or two more pictures (ie: 26-27 frames) than the buffer can hold (buffer can hold 25 frames) and the 20d can take advantage of the higher speed card.
Good luck, hope this helps

Thanks guys. My (cheapskate) instincts are telling me to go with a standard Sandisk for now and then if I find this is not good enough for continuous shooting, then I can get another one that is high speed. I'm just trying to cut down on the initial expenditure as only just bought the camera, plus I need a case, batteries, charger.....maybe a telephoto lens....!

According to this website https://picstop.co.uk/Secure-Digital-(SD)/SanDisk-Ultra-II-(USB)-SD-Plus-Card---1GB these cards aren't supported by Canon...??

I'm not sure the "plus" model is worth the extra bucks. That's the one that bends in half to expose a USB port. All others aren't an issue.
