I am looking to buy the E500. I like the Kit with the 14 - 45mm and 45 - 150mm lenses. Costco are selling with the 17.5 - 45 lens, is this lens OK, I can not find any reviews on it.

I've heard it's not as good as the other kit lens in that range (the 14-45) ... also if you'll want the other kit lens (the 45-150) the cheapest way to get it is in the kit. I think you should skip this, and look for some place where you can buy the 2-lens kit.

The lens is probably okay for general use; I've not heard anything seriously bad about it on the DPReview Oly forum, but you should be cautious about what else you're getting in the kit. Some of the cheaper kits come without batteries, so the expense goes up anyway. I agree with Balrog, the 2-lens kit is the best bargain around.

I got the 17.5-45 with my E-500 and now I'm looking at a zoom lens. I have been very happy with the 17.5-45 but if you can find the other kit I would say get it. I see stuff every day that would make great pictures but I can't get them with this lens. Now I'm trying to make up my mind between the Sigma 55-200 and the Oly 40-150 that come with the other kit. Save your self some timme and get the right one the first time.
