Hi,

I have just upgraded from a Fuji S5000 to a 350D, and boy, what an upgrade it is proving to be. I am extremely happy with it, although I have noticed an odd effect when using the built-in flash. Some of the pictures I have taken of my adopted 2 year daughter show her pupils as blue (see attachment). In all the pictures I take of my wife, her eyes appear normal. We are white and our daughter is black - if that at all relevant. Can anyone tell me what causes this please.

Thanks.

I'd say she is a rather nice shade of brown ;)

She has very dark eyes, and the flash is very bright. Maybe her eyes just reflect light more than your wifes eyes.

The white is so bright that the pixels there get overloaded, and around there the pixels seem to slightly react to that in the blue shades. It is rather like purple fringing caused by chromatic abrivation, but then you would only see it on one side of the light, that is caused by parts of light passing in a different way through the lens than otehr wavelengths.

Thanks for the reply and explanation. I guess I will just have to save up for a decent off-camera flash then...
