Hi,

This is my first posting, and also my first foray into Digital SLR's. I picked up on ebay a Canon d30 complete with an EF 28-105 USM lens for $445 (including shipping). Camera itself is in great shape, only thing missing is the plastic plug for the remote shutter release, which doesn't bother me much at all. Came complete with all cables, chargers, manuals, etc. and a bag was thrown in. Does this seem to be a good value and a good beginner D-SLR, or should I have bumped it up a couple of hundred dollars or so for a Nikon D50 or Digital Rebel? All opinions appreciated, looking forward to hearing and responding.

Thanks,
Brian

The lens itself is worth $150-200, so you got the body for around $250 - $300. That seems like a very good deal to me! The D30 is a great camera to start with, and should produce better images than any PnS out there. Congratulations, and be sure to post some pics!

I think you did good. If you find you outgrow it I'm sure you'd get your money back. Welcome aboard.

I concur. It's not the latest and greatest but it's a solid camera and a good lens...for a nice price!
