Hi everyone,
I intend to purchase a Kodak EasyShare V530 digicam pretty soon. But I have a doubt about it's accessories: does it come with an USB A/V connector, so I can plug it directly to the computer's USB port without using the dock?
I'm ordering it online, so I cannot get to see what's in the box before buying. Reading the packing contents on websites, I do not see this connector listed, although it is mentioned on the manual, as you can see here:
http://www.kodak.com/global/images/en/service/manuals/GLB_en_urg_00436_images/autourg00436003ID1757043.jpg
If it does not come with it, where can I find/buy it?
PS: Tried to contact Kodak tech support, but no answer so far...
Thank you,
- Helder

The picture that you have posted is how you connect the camera to your USB port.
The camera has a single connector on the bottom that either plugs into the dock or plugs into the adapter that you can connect to your USB cable

That's what I'm talking about. That adapter (called "connector" on the manual) that connects the docking interface to the USB cable.
It seems the camera does not come with it...
I'd like to confirm this.

I got the answer I was looking for, from a kodak support enginner. I'll post it here, for others that had the same question.
He said:
The V530 is packaged differently in the US vs the rest of the world. Only the US packages come with the Photo Frame Dock 2. Everywhere else, it comes with the USB/AV adapter. All packages include the AC Adapter and the USB cable and AV cable.
It seems I'll just use a memory card reader, If I cannot get that adapter (called "connector" on the manual, from the pic above) from Kodak.

If I had the elusive connector, I could then connect the camera directly to
the computer. Would it then show up as a drive in Explorer? Would it show up
on any computer, one without any Kodak driver crud?
Going through the dock, nothing shows up, even though the “new drive”
sound chirps, and the Easyshare software does see it. Makes no sense.

Only the US packages come with the Photo Frame Dock 2. Everywhere else, it comes with the USB/AV adapter.
And all this time I was proud to be an American. The “USB/AV connector” cannot be found by searching the Kodak site or the web... I’m a slave to the frigging dock.

I bought that same camera this morning and I have not been able to transfer pictures using the Dock.
I spent nearly 2 hours on the phone with someone from tech support but the end result is the same : no drive is added to my system AND EasyShare software does not see the Camera either ...
I am running Windows Server 2003 and I can see that the device is attached in the Device Manager but that's as far as it'll go ...

I may be telling you something you already know, but...
My dock works, but the camera never has shown up as a new drive.
For the dock to work, (a) the camera needs fresh pix in it and (b), I have to click the dock’s upload button, on the right. Otherwise it just sits there.
On other mysterious thing: I have the dock’s USB cable plugged into one of those powered expander ports, shared with a few other devices. Since installing the Kodak, every time I reboot the PC, I also have to reboot the expander (unplug its power, wait a bit, plug it back in).

how do you like the camera?
anyone else in here have sample pics or any info on their experience with this camera?

I’ve used it very little, but compared to my very expensive four-year-old Sony monster, it kicks booty. What this tiny thing can do, for just two hundred bucks, boggles the mind.
PC Mag has a glowing and accurate review at:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1877621,00.asp
And most Epinion-ers like it:
http://www.epinions.com/Kodak_EasyShare_V530_Digital_Camera
As for the dock craziness mentioned above: It apparently does not like sharing a USB expander. In addition to having to reboot the expander, it was causing PC bootup to fail at the beginning about every other time. Sometimes it would say keyboard error, same result with a different keyboard. Anyway, once I plugged the Kodak dock cable directly into the PC’s USB jack, everything behaves again. Gotta love computers.
Modern PCs have a lot more USB ports than this beast, so this problem probably won’t affect most of you.
One other thing: get an extra battery, like the KLIC-7002 :

Meanwhile, I’d still give an eye tooth for the aforementioned USB/AV connector, so I could ditch this stupid dock.

Ta da! I have discovered the source of the mysterious connector:
Please be informed that you may use the USB cable to connect your camera to the computer. All you have to do is to attach the USB/AV Dock Connector Adapter then connect the USB cable. If you do not have the USB/AV Dock Connector Adapter (part no. 3F6455), please call our Kodak Service Parts Management at 800-431-7278 and choose option 3, for part availability and cost.

I just bought a V530 and was very confused by the photos of the usb adapter block in the manual, but not one in the box. I just use my T5 palm to view files on the card as a drive letter on my PC, works great! I could not believe that the Kodak software for the dock would not let you sort by date and mass select a bunch of photos.

And here I am. I have 4 KODAKS here and 4 docks, one being a printer dock. I've never had conections or software problems. Oh and yes you have to push the button on the right to print or download pictures. If you didn't have to do something after setting the camera on the dock to charge battery after each use it would just try download or print pictures if you wanted to or not. I find no problems with pushing the button.

Well, well, well. Finally found what we all have been looking for. This elusive USB/AV Connector from Kodak. No, it does not come with the purchase of the V Series Cameras or others. You need to order it from Kodak Parts (that is the only place I found to date). You'll need to call Kodak @ 1 800 431 7278 and do prompt #3. The part reference number is 3F6455 and they will charge you $15.00 (includes shipping). Good Luck and Happy TV viewing your pics with this ever so elusive piece.

After reading this post I went to the KODAK site and it looks like the USB/AV cables come with all of the rigs metioned above. The cable set came with my DX3125, DX6340, DX6440, DX6490, DX7590, Z7590, and my P850.
If you have more questions I'm sure Ron Baird at Eastman Kodak Compnay at the link provided in the KODAK area would be happy to help.

Or Mike O'Brian from Eastman Kodak Company at this forum in the KODAK area.

New here...Can I post a link to Kodak or do I need to send you a personal e-mail? This link will answer your question and/or let you purchase the connector. Worked for me...However I am in the US, don't know if that makes a difference.
Photo & source of the culprit is below.
I, too, am frustrated that I must use the dock. I bought a flash card reader which works OK (some are cheaper than others, I now realize . . . ), but even that is inefficient. Upon further pursuit, I find in the manual explanation about the diagram shown below:
Table of Contents > Transferring and printing pictures > "Transferring pictures with the USB cable" (or go to this link to view that page of the manual: http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/publications/urg00436toc.jhtml?chapsec=urg00436c3s3&pq-path=7172 )
Kodak now says on their website:
Now you can display your pictures or video on your television, computer monitor, or any other device equipped with video output. Simply use the KODAK USB A/V Connector and your KODAK AV Cable, Model AV-8 to connect the camera to the output device.
To transfer pictures without a KODAK EASYSHARE Printer Dock or Camera Dock, use the KODAK USB A/V Connector and KODAK USB Cable, Model U-8.
Here's the only source I'm finding today (but I am sure there must be more . . . )
$7.99 + $6.50 s/h = Item # 1002633

Good luck!
