For Canon S2 IS, I was looking for a fast speed SD Card (around 60X, suggested by dcresource). Most of the websites are giving card transfer rate in Mbps. What is the normal conversion rate here in 'X' format?

Which SD Card is better???Any suggestions???

My personal preference is toward Sandisk Ultra II (Ultra II Plus if you want "built-in" USB). Reasonably priced, highly compatible, lifetime warranty, great technical support.

Lexar Professional cards are a similarly regarded product.

i use cheap sandisk 512mb cards,

also have cheap 512mb PNY sd cards - they are ~ 2-3x slower than these sandisk (you can see the little orange light that shows its writing to card takes that much longer with same scene)

:just did a test:
highspeed continuous, jpeg super-fine

PNY512:
38 pics (1.2MB each - (it was dark scene)) in 16 seconds, then 12 pics in 11 seconds then, 15 seconds for write to stop !!! >:| PNY SUCKS :(

SANDISK512
38 pics (1.2MB each same scene) in 16 seconds and continued at same rate until card full. sandisk stopped writing immediately after button released. :D that comes to about ~ 2.3frames/sec
138 pics/60seconds exactly (i have audio recording of shutter) 2.3fps exactly (pic 1.7MB each)

VIDEO:
both fill up 512mb without frame drops or other problems. pny takes longer to finish writing.

Check Newegg, they have good prices. Zipzoomfly sometimes, too.

I got a 1GB Ridata 66x for cheap at Newegg, and a 2GB Patriot 133x. Both have lifetime warranties.

PS - One Corsair 60x card says 9MB/s read speed, so you could use that for a baseline.

Not that I want to sabotage you - but I don't see the benefits for a buyer. 1GB card with no warranty for $75?

Here is a bit of my own experience with a cheap 2GB 50x A-Data card. First of all, I have my S2 IS only a week or so, I haven’t gained yet much experience with it (learning fast, it is my 3rd Canon and 4th digital camera).
I purchased the A-Data 2GB SD card on ebay for much less than half price I would pay for a good brand name. I needed the large memory as I plan to shoot video clips quite a bit.

First the good news:
S2 IS recognized the card OK and it did low format it in about 15 seconds with no problems (in playback mode).
The card is fast enough for unlimited continuous video shooting at 640x480, 30 fps.
The card is fast enough for unlimited picture shooting at 1.5 fps and highest resolution (L/S). For the high speed 2.4 fps picture shooting at L/S the camera goes at full speed for about 8 seconds (20 shots) then it starts slowing down. For the M/S setting the camera goes full speed 2.4 fps unlimited.
The files download on to PC is quite fast as well, about 4.3 MB/s.

Now the bad news:
The card gave me couple times message ‘memory card locked’, I had to turn the camera off, reinsert the card and it worked again.
I got at least couple times message ‘memory card (format) error’ which I was able to fix by turning camera off and on alternatively in playback/record mode.
I got couple times low battery icon flashing on freshly charged batteries in record mode, which disappeared by switching to playback and back to record. I kind of suspect it may be related to the card as well.

I never had this kind of problems with my previous digital cameras, mind you they were all using CF cards 512 MB max. I wonder if the 2GB card is just too much for the S2 IS or if the A-Data is just a piece of junk. I will definitely have to look for something more reliable, may be 1 GB only, just for the peace of mind sake.

I've seen quite a few bad reviews for A-Data cards:

Maybe go with different brand. Ridata 2GB for ~$100 would be my choice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820183006

I keep a Scandisk Ultra II 1 gig for videos, and a regular Scandisk 512mb for still images. Both have been rock solid.

Hopefully I'll have this mystery solved., just got my TWO Canon S2's in the mail.,

With my S1., my kingston regular 512mb only gave me 30s video and would buffer maxout. I was told to buy LEXAR 4X-and never looked back. I can get 512mb straight with 640+30FPS in one shot., action photography never hiccups. I bought TWO 512 lexar 4X's for $25CAD EACH!!!! (there was a 50% MIR), and was I happy.

Now My S2...I have no idea...and don't even think walmart carries Lexar 4X SD cards...but I'm hoping they do and they as well have a 50% MIR :)

Until then, I've stolen my bros ultra II which I helped him scope out for his Konica Z5...what an overpriced purchase that card was :(

I got a Dane-Elec 1GB SD XS (60x/38x) pre-formatted and blazing fast ... also comes with a 10 year worldwide free replacement warranty: Free replacement ships within 24 hours to your address anywhere in the world if your card fails ... no questions asked :D ... then you have 30 days to send the defective card back to Dane-Elec ... card is not cheap though :(

Well? How much was it?

I just got a 1Gig Elite Pro 50X (LifeTime) So far thing major...could be a XP restriction I'm yet to test it out.

Did 8mins of video in one setting on 640/30fps with 20action shots in the same card.
