As indicated in my title, I am a new digital camera user. I have a Fujifilm FinePix S5200. My first challenge is to understand how to adjust the camera quality so that I can take nice jpeg images that have a high compression ratio. I would like to obtain image sizes of 50k on average. I feel that the more pictures I can take whiich produces a small file size the more I will be able to use my camera and learn the subsequent adjustments I can make.

I will be traveling to Lake Tahoe in a couple of weeks. I would like to be able to take pictures while I am there.

Who can help me get started.

First of all, your camera is not a DSLR, so you should post in the "Fuji" forum instead.

You also should not want to make very low quality photos with your camera, even (or especially?) while you are learning about its features. You should buy a big enough memory card for it, and shoot at full resolution. When you actually are in need of a small and highly compressed picture, just downsize and save them with your computer.

If you make a great photo in very low resolution, you will never have the chance to have it in full resolution... for a nice print for instance. When you have a big photo, you always have the chance to make it smaller.
