View Full Version : S2 - remote shutter ?

Had problems tracking rockets while taking stills and video with the S2,
They leave the pad at up to 600 MPH+.

So I was going to take an extra rifle stock and mount the the S2 on it, and mount a "Red Dot" scope on it. The Red Dot would be in the traditional place a scope is on a rifle and the camera mounted below. I use a red dot on My Bird guns and You keep both eyes open to track the "taget", works very good.

But I would need to remotely trigger the shutter and if I could the zoom too, can that be done through the USB ?

Many thanks,

Nick

You can operate the zoom and the shutter from a laptop via the USB cable and the the Remote Shooting tab in the Camera Window application that came with your S2.

JTL,
So if it can be operated via the USB (with a computer), than a remote shutter/zoom switch could be made by canon or a 3rd party.

what are the chances of Canon making one ?

Found a wireless remote for the Canon S1, please tell Me works with the S2 !

There is no way the S2 would have less features then the S1 ??

Thanks,

Nick

NickThere is no wireless remote that will work with the S2...it does not directly support wireless. And, it's not just a hardware problem...it's a software one as well. Theoretically, I guess you could construct such a device. But, I wouldn't count on seeing a Canon or third party solution. If it hasn't happened by now, it won't. Anyway, they need ways to differentiate the new upcoming G-series camera and the possible Pro1 replacement, so you can bet on seeing wireless remote on those models.

JTL,
so the only way to remotely control the shutter is through the USB,
Now I just need a list of USB commands for the S2 and a programable "micro controller" that lets You flash its memory.

I realy need to control the shutter and zoom remotely (about 6" away)

Why would the S1 have remote, and it is dropped for the S2 ???

NickI think they screwed up...obviuosly, they could have included it...but I smell a marketing department at work...and there's no rational reasons for what marketer's force upon us...except for their over-active imaginations...

If you sucessfully build such a device, I am interested. Maybe I could even help commercialize it...
