Hope I won't be dissatisfied. Any info on the camera, such as additional memory, etc. I will have to purchase will be appreciated.:)

A very good, well-padded case and a memory card is all I would consider purchasing at this point. After you have used it for awhile, you may decide on a few other items. Best to start slow and add-on later - it saves from buying things you don't need or won't use.
Here's a link to a pretty good deal on memory and easily purchased locally.

The best cases, IMO, are Lowe Pro and Tamrac. They offer good protection and a good value.
I wish I had known about this BEFORE I put a scatch on my SD500 LCD...I now have one on and it works great....highly recommended! :)

Spare battery is a good thing to have in the camera case.

Make sure you are GENTLE with that LCD... they tend to be fragile in the SD models.

While this has been reported often here, I've been very hard on my SD300 for over a year (backpacking, ski mountaineering, etc) and it's been fine. So, while some have broken, it's not a general thing for the LCDs.
I bought a Power 2000 extra battery, a Lowe Pro case, and a bigger SD card.

I don't question that there is an issue, but I'm not convinced that it's a design issue. Possibly it's a manufacturing defect or something of that nature. I'm sure that is no consolation if it happens to you. I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

oh no offense taken :) Just wanted to warn that there is a "small" chance that you can end up with a broken lcd from regular use and storage.
