Hi everybody,
I've just thinking do I need to have special care of white balance making shots with my Canon A610 camera. I mean buy special black, grey and white reference cards even in this camera I have JPEG workflow? Of course I can, but this kind of cards set is rather expensive for me in comparison to whole camera price.

Do you think that if I make a shot of this three cards in real environment and after that use the eye droppers in my graphic program could produce greater effects?

Maybe just having white copy paper and set my camera to custom WB is enough when I'd like to make a shots? What about midtones and deep black in this case?

I've found in A610 some problems with WB esepcially with low, mixed light environemnts and somethimes pictures looks unnatural.

Yes, a white paper will do fine. You do not need a set of cards, and adjusting levels with the eye drop tool will decrease dynamic range, so it is preferable to let the camera determine white balance with a white piece of paper or cardboard.

Well it's good to know, but could you explain me when a set of cards is usefull. I saw the video presentation on whibal site: http://www.whibal.com/products/whibal/index.html and they strictly recommend to use this kind of stuff ;-) Of course with much better cameras and RAW workflow, but... Do you recommend to don't worry about that and go make a pictures only with simple white piece of copy paper?

Thanks a lot for advice,
