Hello
I’m wondering if anyone can give me some advice.
My friend really likes photography and she seems quite good from what I’ve seen, she is doing it more recreational than as a hobby or for enjoyment, just like your family and friend pics mainly.
She has this camera at the moment:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005U2M8/026-7039753-5728406
Fuji FinePix 2800 2MP
And while its an SLR (I think!) it seems absolute crap from the pictures that she’s sent me.
In the product description is says:
‘Multi-Programmed Flash with Red-Eye Reduction’
Red-eye reduction my arse, this thing seems to have red-eye enhancing! I seriously have not seen a picture of hers that does not have red-eye. I think that it must be enhanced for her because she has blonde hair and blue/green eyes, which I read is the most exposed to red-eye.
Now she is insistent that she needs a ‘Digital SLR’, why, I don’t know, I think because she has seen them used in photo shoots or something. Most of her pictures are of her friends, family or places she visits, so sort of ‘point & shoot’ pictures if that is the correct terminology. She doesn’t take pictures of wildlife or anything abstract that is blurred or advanced etc. but she really wants an SLR one so that is a preference.
Now here are a few pictures showing the red-eye and it is quite bad as you will see:

I know that the surroundings look really dark but they were actually quite light, I think is the camera.
Here is a pictures showing with out red eye. The one on the left was taken with the same camera, I guess that it must have been very well lit? The one on the right was a picture taken at a photo shoot with a really good camera.

I am thinking to buy her a digital camera for her birthday and was wondering if you had any recommendations. I don’t really want to spend £1000 if she only needs a cheaper one if you get me, infact I don’t want to spend £1000 if she needs a £1000 one! Any recommendations you may have of the more expensive ones, I may try to find cheaper on eBay or something.
One of the cameras that I was seriously considering was the:
Kodak DX4530, which is about £100 second hand on eBay. I have a Kodak DX4900 and it seems alright.
I am mainly aiming to buy a second hand one you see.
The main thing that I am looking for is that the camera doesn’t take pictures with red-eye. As I said, she is very prone to red-eye and it makes all of her pictures really bad.
Any suggestions experts?
Thanks
