After doing much "research" over the past 2 weeks, I finally decide on the Canon Powershot S80. We bought it just over a day ago, and the baby is still in the box, because for the most time today I have spent hours killing my eyes reading the ENTIRE advanced manual on the computer (did it! but i could swear my right eyes is twitching a bit). I wanted to do this first so that I could at least know what I was doing when I switched it on.
Anyway there were two things that were unclear to me.
First about formatting. There is normal and low formatting. When I unpack my SD memory card, put it in the camera, turn the camera on, I should format it first before doing anything else. Right? And WHICH, the low or the normal. It says that the highest resolution for image taking ir much be formated on low. hmm....
I got a Kingston 1GB SD memory card, is it of the better ones?
And, what is card formatting anyway, what does it actually D-O? Other than erase all of your data, what is this for (other than solve the slower performance of the card)?
Other is about the battery. Mine is still in the plastic bag, havent done anything with it yet. It says that it should be charged first before being used for the first time. So I should do that for 90mins - 2 hours. Or longer.
It says something in the manual that it should not be ..... 24 hours - it prolongs the batter life, and I can't understand if they mean that I should not charge it more than once every 24 hourse, or that I should leave it n the battery chagerer for more that 24 hours (since it charges so quickly. If they meant the first - could leaving the battery in the charger even after it has been charged, with the chrger still plugged in -- Damage it??)
It also said something that the battery can be charged even when only half empty, that there is no need for using it all up or dischargin it, this way it is completely full again. Is this recomended?
If everyone here who has this camera also could say a few words --bad and good, about it, things that I sould watch for, I'd really aprriciate that.
Also since when has it been avaliable. October, Novemeber?

edit: Also when I put the battery in for the first time, it says that I should leave it in for 4 hours so that te iternal battery can be charged.
So should I just put the newly charged battery in the camera and leave it for four hours before playing around with the camera and testing it? Or can I just have a bit fun and when I turn it off it will charge then just the same?
