View Full Version : S2 IS issues with LCD vs. monitor

Hello,

I've had the S2 IS for about three weeks and have been soaking up all of the great information in this forum. Been experimenting alot with P, Tv, and Av modes (not M yet), and getting some seemingly decent results. I say "seemingly" because I thought I was getting good results -- until I transfered the pictures to my computer!

When I view my shots on the S2's LCD screen, I'm pretty happy with what I see. The shots in question seem nicely focused, well-lit, and tastefully saturated on the LCD, but when I transfer the pics to the computer they are noticeably darker, less saturated, and possibly less detailed (though that's probably just from the darkness). Also the white balance looks different on the LCD than on the computer monitor.

I recalibrated my monitor, but it didn't make a difference. I didn't have this problem with my old Kodak digital at all. The sample S2 photos I've downloaded from this site and others don't seem to have this darkness problem on my monitor either. It's almost as if the LCD is introducing a false sense of brightness and saturation to my shots that isn't really there (I have not changed any LCD settings, btw). Is this possible? Is the viewfinder a more accurate representation of the image I'm actually capturing?

Sorry if this is a n00b question, but I've searched around and not found this exact issue.

Thanks!

A couple of suggestions:
1. Post a sample shot where we may view it and compare to what you are seeing.

2. Have WalMart (or similar) do a 1-hour photo of some pictures. Then compare the printed photos to what you are seeing on your monitor.

I had to do some adjusting on the computer monitor when switched from CRT to LCD monitor.

Generally, I would say what you are seeing on the S2 LCD screen would be accurate (your having stated that the LCD screen is at the default setting).

The LCD on the S2 will only give you a rough idea of the result, good for framing and establishing light settings. I tend to just use it for a couple of initial shots then abandon it altogether. If I review photos on it I have to zoom in as scale is way too small to be any good.

Try these settings:

sharpness at medium
contrast at low
saturtation high
ev -1/3rd

I have found those give me the best "what my eyes" see captures with the S2. Sometimes the grass can be a touch too green, but I find it to generally be more accurate than at medium saturation.

Hi there,
After taking a picture the LCD displays well exposed and focused shot.
Making the photographer very happy!

But

After downloading the picture to the computer the picture is blurry.

Other issue I have is a focus lock. I take first picture and the focus locks, a second later I try taking a second picture of the same thing and I cant get the box to turn green.
