I just bought a new Coolpix 8700 with a Super Accessory Kit (from dbuys.com) that contains an Opti Vision 2.0 Pro High Definition Telephoto Lens and a Digital Optics Wide Angle Pro High Definition with Macro 0.45x. The Lens Adapter that came with these is a Merkury Optics "Adapter Tube Set, 5700/8700 Series, 52-53.4mm.

After programming 'ALL THE MENUS' for either the Wide or Telephoto Lens and screwing on the Adapter Lens, I would get a message: LENS ERROR!. I called dbuys about the problem and they sent me Digital Concepts Conversion Lens Adapter Set which says they fit the Coolpix 5700 and accepts 52mm wide angle & telephoto & filters. I tried these on the camera, and got the same LENS ERROR MESSAGE. I'm ready to return the camera I'm so frustrated.

Am I missing something in how to use these lenses, how to attach them, etc.? I'll have to return the camera in 5 days and try to get my money back. I sure would appreciate some help as quickly as possible. Also, the three filters that came with this package won't work either on the camera: same error message.

Thanks,
Con

Hello, I just got mine too. Don't really like the adapter thing. Out of all the articles I read on this camera you'd think somebody would have mentioned it! I mean the adapter/lense creates a shadow from the built in Flash that's guaranteed to obscure any small item you are shooting! No flash for me thanks! Better this way but jeeze. My 990 is better designed. Anyway I have the same Merkury adapter I believe, says for 5700/8700 52mm.

Have you noticed that that thing has two pieces? Mine came screwed together and I had to blow it by unscrewing half and using that. It's all good until I zoom in a bit and BLAM! the 8700 lens hits the back of the filter on the Merkury! LENS ERROR - SHUT DOWN! Welp, Upon removing the adapter I discovered the 8700 lense sticks out on its own, much further than this adapter. OHHHHHHHH! I see, I must keep BOTH sections of adapter together, it's sort of an adapted adapter or an adapter extension. Since then the pics have been great and I can ZOOOOOM away if I was into that kind of thing, and not get that piss you off error anymore.

Hopefully your problem is similar to mine and has to do with the length of your tube adapter compared to your protruding member. WHAT?

ALSO: I got this neat little macro lense for it that doesn't look like much more than a filter but man does it take good close-ups. I just printed a picture of a hotwheel I took that printed at about 17x22 (no flash) looks beautiful, no pixellation and minute details, people take a while to clue in to the fact that it's a hotwheel. Maybe it's the shoe in the background that's 10 times bigger than the car!
TIP: If you need a mem card justdeals.com has them pretty cheap, but check the Ebay store of the same name and pick off the forgotten cards as their listings expire. CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP.
