Anyone else experience this? When you press the button half way, there's a loud audible movement of parts when its trying to focus. At first I thought the camera was defective so I sent it back and got another one. The replacement camera makes the same noise.

And I thought I was crazy or something. I just bought one of the S600 cameras and I'm having this problem, too. I e-mailed tech support at Casio and hope to receive a response soon. I'm hoping I'm just being paranoid...

I'm surprised no one else is replying to this thread. Let me know what Casio Tech support says when you hear back from them.

I just bought one and I'm having the same problem.
There's a review on cnet aisia that says

The bad: Audible noise generated by the internal autofocus (AF) system; frame freezes during autofocus.

I'm still trying to find other sites that have reported this problem

found another forum and a few more people with this problem
http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=69003&forum_id=14

found this too:
http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=69003&forum_id=14
it says:
"Try This!
While the noise can be annoying, it is normal in the AF focus setting. In the manual, it mentions the PF Focus mode, Page 76. It is slower than AF, but the noise is gone. I have not noticed a huge difference in the focus quality between AF and PF, but PF is slower. Everything is working as intended.

There is nothing wrong with the camera. Personally, I want the AF to be fast, and I have a HD Camcorder, so this S500 is not my video camera. I use it because it fits in my pocket where my main camera (Canon EOS 1D Mark II) is not something I can take to work on a regular basis."

LoL omg guys. Its not that bad. and its not like we have USM or something.

Recording of Casio S500 (http://www.freewebtown.com/cptofgondor/V003.WAV)

Power Up - AF Activation - Af Activation - Power off

Turn up your speakers cuz my mp3 player recorder sucks. Its a louder than what you can here on this recording but its not that bad.

To tell you the truth, the AF motor on my D-Xenon 18-55mm kit lens makes noise comparable to this if not more. LoL.
