Ok I'm more or less a n00b when it comes to photography. I've been using a Canon A40 more or less as a point n' shoot. I got the T9 a few days ago and found my results to be quite different than I experienced with the A40.

I like taking photos without flash. I found the A40 does a good job in most cases. BTW, the A40 is a hand me down from a friend who is a proffesional photographer. So I don't know if maybe he has tweeked some of the settings on the A40. Unfortunately he's away and won't be back for several weeks.

The problem on the T9 is that it's red or orange shifting the exposures whether the flash is on or not. When I shift back and forth from the realtime framing mode and the picture review you can see a clear shift to orange almost as if it were shot in candle light.

I'm using the factory defaults and auto exposure settings only turning on and off the flash. I also used my A40 to take shots of the same scenes only a few minutes later but with no change in lighting(indoor floods). They came out with the same balance of colors as usual.

So my question is: Is this just the way the Sony is or are there tweeks I can do to get similer performance as my A40?

Time is short if I am to take this thing back.

I'm wondering if I should have gone with the SD 550? Being it's a canon and should give me similer if not better results as the A40? I opted for the T9 because it is smaller and I like the stead shot feature. And also because it got such great reviews.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

After 3 days and more than 60 views nobody has any advice. I would have thought the admin. atleast would have said something. Now I got a day left to figure out whether to take this thing back or not. Guess I'll try the competition.

This site is all glitter and no substance. And to think I relied on the reviews here to make my decision. Probably in Sony's pocket.

Calm down, boy.

Why don't you upload some example pictures of the same scene taken with the two cameras?

Wow ... as said, post some pictures and we can collectively help!

I had a "heart skipping" moment when I took some shots with my new T9 at a dinner party - sounds like a similar problem. I fixed it by going to manual mode.

I can promise you Canon SD cameras are worse - not for orange shifting, but for problems with focus and shake (I replaced an SD400 with the T9).

I'll post some of my "oops" shots tomorrow and let folks rip away :)

Cheers-
MJ

PS: Jeff is not in anyone's pocket - he's one of the most straightforward reviewers I've ever followed - and I followed him from his PowerComputing days and when he first started this site.

Cheers,
mj
