just throwing this around....

assming one could get the canon for $500cndn more than the D70s......is it REALLY worth it...

i see on some reviews that the d70s is the midsize competition for the 20d..

i also notice the d70s was released AFTER the 20d (which was some time in '04)
so should the nikon be abit quicker with some regards over the 20d???

i am struggling with the fact of what camera/lens will be developed in the future

not sure if i want to have a collection of nikon lens, jus t to NEED/WANT a caonon body in the future, so have to switch everything!

if i get into this more i imagain i would be shooting some indoor hockey/weddings and bodybuilding shows...

i've read the nikon has better focusing/AF abilities, the 20d is a low light perofrmer too, although without the spot metering (can this be lived without?)

im hung up on noise, not so much Megapixels.....the 20d produces less, but witht the noise reducing software is this REALLY that big of an issue?

with the release of the 5D, i have to think a prosumer whall come oout in the future thats just phenomenol, any word if nikon is producing something or was that the D200??

trying to think if i have seen comparos between the 20d and the D200??

any info would be gr8t

The D70 was Nikon's answer to the then incredibly low priced Canon EOS 300D. It beat it in features and built quality and equaled it in image quality, and was a big success.

Then Canon came with two cameras, the 350D aimed at the entry level like the D70, and the 20D, which replaced the 10D which was in competition with the Nikon D100. Both were feature rich and 8mp, and rivaled the D70 in features, the 350D undercutting it by a margin in price.

So, Nikon had to react and came with the D50 to undercut the 350D in price, and updated the D70 to the D70s (mainly just sporting a bigger LCD and some very minor changes).

Now Nikon has introduced the D200, to replace its very aging D100 in the semi pro field. Nikon chose to make it very feature rich, with a weather sealed body, so its price is quite a bit above the 20D's price. This probably will mean that in future a D70s and a D50 follow up will co-exist, with the D50 replacement keeping the entry level, and the D70s replacement moving up a bit.

What Canon will do with the 20D replacement is a big unknown. It will not be a full frame camera (the 5D is that already), but what kind of price point it will take, and what features it will have, remains to be seen.

The D70 is not really newer than the 20D, and the 20D is the quickest overal but the differences are small.
With a good lens Canon's AF is just as good, but the lens/camera combination is more important in this respect than with Nikon. The Canon has a kind of bigger spot metering, and of course the Canon will do fine.

Both makes will keep on having good cameras and lenses, it is hard to tell what the future will bring.

as long as the differences are small......thats all im concerned about..

by the sound of things from what i have read here and elsewhere....the canons are real finicky with what lens are used.....more often than not canon are prefered for better pics

as long as i have good glass the d70s should fit the bill i figure..

well written by the way .....
